We finally found the new Big Al sculpture, with the help of friends. We'd gone looking for him last week but I'd thought he was in a different place, and we apparently walked right past him without seeing him because we were focused on something else.

He's situated in the Disney Vacation Club space just across the entrance into . The lockers have been moved further up the path, and they're free for 2 hours while you go on Grizzly River Run. 1/2

Our friends discovered that if you wave a Magic Band or touched Big Al with it (we didn't quite figure out what the trigger was), he would talk or sing. Pretty cool. 2/2

Last weekend, I got to try the shaaken beef with Tattooine bounty, which includes peppers, onions and crispy kale, from , a dish that debuted on May 4 this year. The dish was ok, a little salty, which is saying a lot coming from me. I wouldn't order it again. /1

@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

When the husband took the dish back up, the cast member looked at it, looked confused, and then called for another of the dish, which is what he brought back. He said the CM didn't seem to know what the dish was either.

You can see in this picture, of the regular dish, that it does contain a few pieces of gnocchi, which are the orange lumps at the bottom middle of the picture. (Not the bigger orange lump at the bottom right - that's a pepper.) /4

@cstephens2@mastodon.social avatar

I think this is a terrific vegetarian offering, and I would absolutely order it, especially with the abundance of kale. The question would be how to go about doing that, and if it's available, why isn't it included on the menus in the app?

I don't know which part is supposed to be the "Tattooine bounty" though. Surely not any of the vegetable matter, from a desert planet, so maybe the gnocchi? /5 end

Got to see Dug today. His talking collar works too. There was a little girl who was so incredibly happy to see him. She didn't want to leave. 1/2

How good is the battery life on my 11? I spent all day at , leaving at close. Relatives with iPhones had their batteries die around noon to mid-afternoon. Disneyland sells portable chargers everywhere. I never charged my phone once, used it all throughout the day (pretty much have to run Disneyland app), didn't use any power saving mode, etc, and when I got back in around 1:30am, I still had 55% left.

@vwbusguy my work uses iphones so I have to carry one around alongside my personal, even with a brand new battery my work phone has always at best lasted like 1/2-1/3 as long as any other phone I've owned in the past 10 years, even my 6 year old worn battery on my current personal phone (LGv30) lasts like 3 times as long as my work iphone with it's brand new battery....I really don't understand how apple is so bad with battery life, i couldn't engineer it worse if i tried.

Saw fireworks at tonight. Highlights for most people are flying as well as the multi-ballooned house from .

It's actually the best fireworks show they've had in a while in that the fireworks are a significant and spectacular part of the show, as opposed to the focus being the visual projections. 1/3

In the last few shows, the visuals are so well done that you're actually not paying that much attention to the fireworks, which play a secondary role anyway. In this show, the fireworks take prominence, especially with so many being fired off . 2/3

Also, I found the visuals to be disorganized and haphazard, with only a very thin connection.

If it's a fireworks show you want, this is the one to see, preferably if you can see the fireworks being shot off the castle. 3/3

At in the in for , there's also a photo op for , and included in that is a box of Casey Jr. cookies. The "nutrition facts" caught my eye. 8,000 calorie diet seems ... high? And there's always a disclaimer about what could inadvertently be included, but the last line seems like more than you should expect? And, the mis-spelling is not mine. 1/2
