@LilahTovMoon threads is not open unless I can self host an instance. I do think bsky plans to enable federation given they are actively testing it now
@LilahTovMoon I'm not sure I see a way Threads could implement ActivityPub in a way that respected what exists here already. Fundamentally their moderation is incompatible with basically everything here. It seems like them doing that is closer to Truth social technically being on the fediverse than everything we're using now.
@runewake2 I also don't quite get what the point would be for Meta. If they use ActivityPub and start putting ads in the Threads app, it seems like a lot of people could simply leave Threads for a Mastodon instance without ads.
@LilahTovMoon@runewake2 I think they’re doing it to forestall getting into monopolistic legal trouble. If they actually kill Twitter, governments will be looking closely.
I don’t think people will leave because of ads. I have no faith in people’s discernment in that regard…
@LilahTovMoon the embrace, extend, extinguish is the problem. There's already been talk of integrating but have things that only work in the #Threads app. This could create two separate experiences that pushes users onto the controlled platform.
@LilahTovMoon Bluesky is still invite only until they come out of Beta. I plan to use BlueSky alongside Mastodon. Won't be using Threads... even when the EU approves it.
