pmonks, If you’re anti-EV, you’re pro-suicide-by-climate. It really is that simple. Yes public transit and smaller personal transportation conveyances (bikes, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. etc. ad infinitum) are vastly better transport options in dense urbanised areas (including a lot of the Bay), but ~70% of the US population don’t live in such areas [1], and we don’t have time to redesign, rezone, and rebuild that 70% in order to make it public transit / personal transportation compatible.
We have about a decade give or take to massively reduce our carbon emissions or we’re literally toast. And yes EVs aren’t even close to being enough, but they are a quick, substantial, and comparatively easy win that doesn’t require implausible solutions like rebuilding 70% of society by the mid 2030s.
