I've been on Mastodon since October, and this is my 3rd server. I finally found the folks I want to hang with!!
I use content warnings for all sorts of stuff, just trying to be considerate! I always make sure there's #AltText and #CamelCase for my own posts as well as those I boost. #Accessibility matters.
@IcooIey I'll let you know! I was able to fill out the form last week, I think they didn't realize it was live early. Super easy form. When my husband tried to fill it out early, he got a message saying he had to wait until the 28th.
According to the webinar last week, it should be 12 days or so for us to get our vouchers. They'll be doing the Voucher+ (distressed communities vouchers) first. I found a bike shop that's participating, and the owner has set aside the bikes for us!!! Woohoo!!! :bugcat_love:
@hikingdude For me, it was that the old server I was on was for a location and the server owner was very hands off.
I moved to this server because I was friendly with the owner on here, it has a ton of custom emojis, :frog_love: and has a higher character limit. I'm a bit verbose! :bugcat_work:
The main difference between the large servers and the small ones, like the one I was on and the one I moved to, is that the local timeline is like a small community. I can follow the local timeline without having to follow each of those people individually. When I first started, I was on a larger server (mas.to) and the local timeline was like a firehose of posts! Not much community at all.
@somcak i'm so glad you're here!!! :hug_love: :corgi_yay: honestly, you were one of the first people on my "i think this person is on a big server and maybe i should let them know they're totally welcome here if they want an account on a smaller server" list, but then i saw you had moved from mas.to to a small server and chickened out because i didn't want to accidentally make you feel guilty about turning the invitation down if you were happy on that server! :bulbasaur_confused: and that was a heckin long and confusing sentence, so tldr: you've always been a cutie and i'm just glad it's extra-official now! :bugcat_love: :lots_of_love: (and let me know if you ever want the character limit bumped up, it's literally no problem at all!)
@hikingdude i used to be on one of the largest servers (mastodon.lol, rest in pieces :clown_skull:) and my favorite thing about being on a small server is that i'm friends with literally everyone on here! :frog_blush: and for the most part*, i'm pretty sure that everyone who joins this server will fit in well and be able to make friends with everyone else on here too :frog_hug: :birb_heart:
(*there will of course be some conflicts! for example, we have one person who's an entomologist and another person who's entomophobic, so they probably don't want to see each other's posts :giggle: but they're both awesome people! :patrick_love:)
@nuz I moved because big server life wasn't for me. And I was kinda jealous when you got cutie up and running because I was like, I wanna be there. So today, I don't know what happened, I just kinda took the plunge! lol YAY!! I'M A CUTIE!!! :bugcat_hearts:
