Oh just fabulous. 🙄 AI-generated personality tests in job applications have arrived. Just helped a library guest apply for a job and the test was incomprehensible from beginning to end. Of course the local outfit had outsourced the application process to a third party company, who had outsourced the personalty/morality tests to yet ANOTHER company. This ordeal was for a job as a JANITOR. #library#librarian#AI@librarians
Having a totally normal day emailing the author of the 1984 paper "Thermoregulation and Oxygen Consumption during Terrestrial Locomotion by White- Crowned Sparrows" to ask him if he might have any pictures of sparrows on tiny treadmills.
6 Badass Librarians Who Changed History
They will not be shushed.

LIBRARIANS HAVE NEVER BEEN A quiet bunch: Information, after all, is power. To mark National Library Week—typically celebrated the second full week of April, fittingly, went into the archives to find our favorite stories of librarians who have fostered cultural movements, protected national secrets, and fought criminals.
I'm somcak, a #librarian currently in #Ohio. I have 2 mini #dachshunds and 2 #cats. I enjoy all sorts of music, yes, even death metal on occasion!
I've been on Mastodon since October 2022, and this is my 5th server.
I use content warnings for all sorts of stuff, just trying to be considerate! I always make sure there's #AltText and #CamelCase for my own posts as well as those I boost. #Accessibility matters.
I enjoy learning about #history and #archeology, particularly the #neolithic. I'm also interested in #UrbanPlanning and how we can make communities greener. I have an #ebike and care about #CompleteStreets.
Hey everyone! I am a steering committee member of the Queer Liberation Library, an all-digital non-profit library focused on queer fiction and literature. We are looking for a home for a QLL Mastodon account (that I will be running).
Looking for instance recommendations that are queer-friendly, federate with dot social, and are open to organization accounts. I think a library-specific or queer-specific instance makes a lot of sense.
Hey #library and #librarian friends: I'm working on a piece talking about the IRS Direct File program (free #tax prep) and I want to make sure I'm not getting out over my skis.
My sense is that librarians are going to be fielding a lot of questions from the public as they attempt to make use of library computers to handle their tax prep.
Some kind of outreach/training/DF literacy program (and additional funding, obv) could help offset some of that added workload.
I don’t want an internet where 90% of traffic and electricity is wasted to make generative „AI“ and their investors happy while their energy hunger destroys our planet. I want an internet that shares knowledge for free for everyone, so we can build a better world.

New instance new intro!!

Are there any special librarians on here willing to do a short (30 minute) virtual interview? The info will be used for a class paper.
By special librarian, I mean someone working in a specialized library as part of a larger organization (ex. medical/military/nonprofit/student org librarians, archivists, corporate intelligence, etc!)
After an online training on #ReadersAdvisory for Millennials and Generation Z, I made a mega list on Libby called “Romantasy” and ended up needing arthritis cream on my wrist today with all the mouse work. Overdrive findability is tough. Metadata is scant. Neither author nor genre searches recovered most of these. It’s almost like they want to bury your old content licences. #Romantasy#LibbyApp#librarian#bookstodon#ebooks#curation @bookstodon @librarians
People are emailing me wanting "genealogy information" from the 1960s. It's like honey, I can help you with the 1760s or the 1860s. I was born in the 1960s and there are no censuses publicly available yet, even. Stop making me feel like a fossil. @librarians#genealogy#librarian
Anyone know of a librarian with an interest/specialty in immersive design work (including but not limited to immersive theater, escape rooms, alternate reality games/ARGs, spatial computing/VR/AR/XR, transmedia work), who would be willing to advise on metadata, organizing digital collections, and similar topics? Please send them my way!
