I was going through a phase today and really am starting to like grittier, darker-looking artstyles. I dont even know atp idk what else to do 😭💀
it's also another practice on adding details and taking things slow with drawing, alongside further developing a sense of fashion and style 🤪
Hoping to say this session was worth the effort, strife and shyness due to sheer fangirling.
I don't draw a ton of fantart but I've drawn more of it in the recent months than I think in many years. I think it's because I've been flailing around a lot, creatively, and it's just nice and comforting to simply draw a familiar character now and then.
And these old characters... they're visually striking, aren't they? They were designed to reproduce easily on cheap newsprint, so they had to be colorful with a strong visual throughline. They are fun.
#Drawing of Hexia, whose hat got stuck to a tree. Her hands are caught in something growing from the tip of her witchy hat (so I avoid drawing hands 😂 ). She even has her feet propped up against the tree in an attempt to get her hands and her hat free.
@peterdrake fwiw - while I am not great at drawing - that was precisely the point at which I stopped using books for learning and started watching artist videos. This isn't natural for me - I strongly prefer books to video for learning. But visual arts unfold continuously over time rather than in discrete intervals. And there's a lot of different right ways to do things depending on what style you're going for. Comparing a few artists' vids for similarities and differences shows a lot. My $0.02
