Which Lemmy instances are anti-corporation?

Concerning the current debate on Meta, I‘m a bit concerned over where I should make my home. I don‘t want corporations to intrude and ruin my just newly found space of freedom. They would just offer "help" and then centralise and privatise and infest it with ads, data collection and profit motive. I need to search for the right instance to combat that.

The place is huge though and I don‘t know where to start my search, I don‘t even know the stance of the kbin admin yet.

So I come to you good people to ask if you can recommend any instance where the owner has made public a strong and clear anti-corporation stance?

Edit: In case anyone stumbles on this, I found two promising instances by myself so far:

https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/

The r/piracy instance, with the admin saying he is anarchist and piracy being the natural enemy of both corporations and governments, it seems likely to take such stance.

https://slrpnk.net/

"Solarpunk" instance, with part of their manifesto reading:

Solarpunk wants to counter the scenarios of a dying earth, an insuperable gap between rich and poor, and a society controlled by corporations. Not in hundreds of years, but within reach.

Much more positive than my doomer brain is used to, but I dig it! A lot!

sj_zero,

I think almost by definition anyone who runs an instance is anti-corporate. If they were pro-corporate there's a free to use big tech universe right there they can use.

I don't think Lemmy/kbin will have much to worry about since I don't think it's super compatible with a Facebook, but mastodon etc probably have a lot to be concerned about.

LostCause,

I hope you are right, I do enjoy the entirety of the fediverse and I would be fine to visit the pro-corporation spaces who aren’t owned by one a bit as well.

I still think I need to find a strongly opposed place to hang out though just in case anyway.

sj_zero,

If nobody has mentioned it yet, there is a list of instances somewhere of admins who are pledging to defederate from Meta if they open a site. That would be a good start.

I'm a fan of my current instance, lemmy.sdf.org

sdf.org goes all the way back to the '80s as a public access unix server and it's all run by a non-profit club.

csolisr,

For obvious reasons, https://lemmygrad.ml is anti-corporative, but on the other hand it keeps spewing Russian and Chinese propaganda

LostCause,

Maybe I should have clarified, state run corporations also don‘t do it for me. So something out of both of these power spheres would be ideal.

cyborganism,

Lemmygrad?

I'm kidding. But for the moment I don't see any being "pro-corporation". Simply joined one that's closer to me geographically.

LostCause,

Not for me either, I see that as supporting corporations as long as the state runs them.

I kinda just picked kbin cause it looked nice, it‘s just now I realised I will have to consider this more carefully.

SilentStorms,

You have the ability to block instances on kbin. It shouldn't matter if your admins defederate or not, you have the ability to do that yourself.

LostCause, (edited )

I think it probably does matter, as the intrusion could still be felt in various ways. For example, if kbin federates with Meta and I block the Meta instance which I assume would be huge and filled with millions, I‘d be surrounded by a bunch of people who communicate with ghosts and see things I don’t. Imagine if all top level comments in a kbin thread came from Meta, it‘d be empty to me. That is not even going into the risk of them buying out the admin to enforce various Meta rules or in other ways affecting the experience I have.

Now if that happens to an instance I am merely visiting, ok fine, but the one I’m from and mainly in, that would feel alienating.

So my goal is to be on an instance which aligns with me on this, so I don’t have to bother the pro-corporation people with my rants about the corporations either, I don’t even fault them for their view as it’s the "rational profitable majority view" in the world I guess. It make sense to accept it, but I can’t, at least not online. I just want like one space I can retreat to with people who aren‘t like that.

Perhaps I need to make my own instance if none can be found.
