My Dad passed away June 9, 2023.
He went through hell & back, several times. He beat almost all odds. Until #covid infection in hospital in 2022. #LongCovid killed him last year.
@msquebanh I am so, so sorry for your loss. It should not have happened. I 100% share your distrust of these so-called "community helpers." My daughter was infected with something (though she didn't test positive for covid) when an unmasked cop pulled my husband over and leaned into the vehicle and got right in her face doing a supposed "wellness check." Keep honouring your dad, and keep fighting for justice- whatever that looks like.
@ExpatRepeat I believe if the lead cop wasn't a power tripping police union pres - no cops would've stayed & the paramedics would've been braver at telling cops that their presence wasn't needed for a cardiac medical emergency.
@Pagan_Animist I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. It's really criminal how the most vulnerable in LTCs & hospitals aren't protected. The safety mandates should never have been removed. There's been multiple covid outbreaks in nursing/retirement homes & hospitals. Yet, our shit government lowers restrictions. It is beyond fucked up.

@Pineywoozle It is criminal but unfortunately the ones killing & disabling citizens aren't held accountable & are stilling killing & disabling citizens. I get angry seeing city council meetings where no one is masking anymore. It's no better when you move up govt ladders - it's even worse. I don't feel bad wishing those politicians & antimasker police - much deaths & much disabilities. They all deserve it.
@Pineywoozle It only takes one cop on a ego trip to get lower ranking cops to do same stupid shit. The lead antimasker cop who refused to leave that night is the head of Saanich Police union. Top down jerks.

I place blame on government's feet. They are the ones responsible for removing safety mandates. They're the ones who cowered to fascists. They're the ones running #eugenics & calling it health care. I hate them.

I've been in angry disbelief for the last almost 4 years, about the almost uniformly destructive global handling of the pandemic (I remain in relatively serious social distancing mode, myself).
I am sorry for your loss, either way. But it feels extra unfair that Covid was a big factor :(

@hko Yeah, my family was so angry that we kept him so safe & then he gets infected in the hospital because people there were reckless & it ended up costing my Dad, his life.

@sj_ashcroft2 I'm just glad some folks understand the anxiety & other feels after losing a parent, especially under the preventable circumstances that we lost my Dad to.
@BootsChantilly I'm not someone who hides what I feel. I don't think it's good for my wellbeing to do that. I'd be more inclined to be less bitter - if anyone in government or police had taken any iota of responsibility for their fuckups. But none have so - fuck em.

@msquebanh@_L1vY_ Agreed on all points. Sci-fi movies taught me to trust the CDC -- naive of me. That trust, genuinely earned in the past or not -- is now thoroughly broken. They, along with all the major governments, will have to do a major overhaul before I ever trust any of them.

@_L1vY_ The jerks aren't recording covid related deaths as such & that totally skews data results. It is not accurate nor anything close to due diligence.
@YMItalking Grieving is healing for the living left behind. We don't rush it. We are pretty traditional with our grieving & cultural ceremonies for our loved ones/ancestors who have passed on. Ancestral honouring is a big part of our culture.
