My son & d-i-l’s house in #Houston was hit. They & their animals are OK. Sheared off all their trees—roof & pole barn will need work. No power or cell service, but his truck is a generator & hot spot. He & his neighbors are helping each other bring all the broken branches & trees down. One of their neighbors got the top of a pine thru their house, but no one was hurt. That’s all I know for now. It’s going to be a while before I stop shaking. #tornados

@thepoliticalcat I wish we could figure out a way to grow veggies here. I’m sure it can be done—but Big Ag gets most of our freaking water (to grow pistachios & almonds, ffs), & we’re running out.

@thepoliticalcat I need to start doing some research. @BootsChantilly

"... while 186 of 193 countries have ratified the CEDAW treaty, the USA shamefully remains as one of only seven countries that has to date refused to ratify it. We join Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Nauru, Palau, & Tonga on this indefensible list. Therefore, CEDAW does not apply in the US. Meanwhile, no Federal legislation exists to ban in the US either." https://qasimrashid.substack.com/p/america-has-a-child-marriage-epidemicand

Okay, since I'm on laundry today, a little story.

When hubs and I first got married, we were very much enjoying our little Honeymoon Bubble, and we were being lazy as Hell. We didn't do many chores, but the laundry we really let go. We weren't wearing many clothes at home anyway, so why bother. Anyhow, after weeks we finally reached the swimming suit bottoms situation, and decided it was time. It was loads and loads of laundry that needed done, so I had my husband back the trunk of the car up to a window of the house, then he popped the trunk, and I started tossing laundry out of the window into the trunk. We went to the bank, got about $30 bucks in quarters, and found the emptiest laundry mat we could, and did it all in one fell swoop. We folded it all and loaded it back into the car using those wheeled laundry carts. We never let it get that bad again, and decided it was time to be adults, and do regular chores, but it still makes me laugh imagining what the neighbors and the laundry attendant thought.

Feel free to share your own laundry story, if you feel like it, I love hearing people's stories!

@RickiTarr When I was a super broke college student, I always used the laundry room in one of the dorm towers on campus. Someone stole my entire load of jeans out of a dryer. All the jeans I owned but one pair. 😣😫😩

I posted flyers in every laundry room on campus: GO AHEAD & WEAR THOSE JEANS YOU STOLE—I’LL BE WATCHING FOR YOU, & WHEN I FIND YOU, I’LL STOMP YOUR BONY ASS INTO PASTE.

I never did find her, tho.

So, what's the thing, what's the big thing no one can help you with? How do you cope with it?

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr Being told by all of society that starting life losing my mother, father, siblings, extended family, identity, heritage & ancestry was of no consequence & no importance. #adoption #AdopteeVoices

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr All my life. Constantly. I should be grateful to be adopted, & because I was adopted as an infant, I was a blank slate. That's what we were all told--the adoption industry pushed that as the primary narrative--much of the industry still does. Crazy LC used to tell me I was born when I was adopted, & that that's all that mattered.

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr Even worse, most of society believes that.

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@TCMuffin You’re allowed to feel however you feel, of course, & I’ll never argue with another adoptee about their experience.

I will say that I know there were aspects of adoption I never thought about or looked at that still significantly impacted my emotional health & behavior, especially when it came to relationships.

Your mileage may vary. @RickiTarr

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@TCMuffin I had a miserable adoption, too. Crazy LC completely neglected us, & Rubberbutt beat us half to death on the regular & started molesting me when I was about 4. I was on my own at 15. There are SO many adoptees who’ve had or are having abusive childhoods. Sadly, it doesn’t even occur to most of society that adoption can be abusive, as the dominant narrative portrays it as nothing but unicorns & rainbows & adoptive parents as saints & saviors. @RickiTarr

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr I was lucky. I was able to afford lots of therapy in my 40s & 50s. Not to mention a really good therapist. I wish I’d found her in my 20s & had started working on my issues then, but bottom line, I’m lucky to have found her at all. It’s VERY hard to find an adoption-centric therapist whose focus & knowledge base is about ADOPTEE issues, rather than those of adopters. @TCMuffin

BootsChantilly,
@BootsChantilly@mstdn.social avatar

@mmiasma So much truth. I searched all my life—but I wasn’t really focused on finding relationships; I wanted ANSWERS. I found my mother when I was 50 & identified my father (who had died in ‘97) 3 yrs later. I did end up with a couple of wonderful relationships, but they were icing on the cake. Getting answers made me whole. @RickiTarr

I’m at the imaging lab. Traffic was light, so I’m early. There was so much great music playing during the drive, & it sure did ease my anxiety. Ian Hunter, T. Rex, Patti Smith, Foo Fighters, a-ha, Todd Rundgren, Cigarettes After Sex, Bruno Mars, Krokus, Queen, Killers, Garth Brooks, & my fave Judas Priest song ever, The Hellion/Electric Eye. #ThankYouSiriusXM

A must-read.

Texas isn't the only state pushing for an end to no-fault divorce--Nebraska, Mississippi, & Louisiana are, too, & many more will follow. Red states want to trap women in pregnancy & in marriage, & they don't care how many of us die as a result. They're misogynists & abusers, & they want to take us back to a time when (white) men had all the power & we had none. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/09/no-fault-divorce-texas-republican-gop-crowder/?ref=shedissents.us

I'll say one more thing, & this is addressed to young women of "marrying" &/or "child-bearing age" (I hate those vomit-inducing phrases, but I think you understand my purpose in using them), & that's that if I were young--at this time, in this country--there's no way in hell I'd get married. No. Way. In. Hell.

I'd be down at my OB/GYN getting an IUD inserted like YESTERDAY, as well. #GOP #WarOnWomen #NoFaultDivorce
