Are there any decent mobile apps for android for viewing kbin? If it's possible to avoid using a browser app to view kbin, I'd love to explore that route.

Image hosting for Kbin?

According to https://tools.pingdom.com/#6227dfd5a3c00000 images make up 50% of the page content. Are these loaded from a S3 bucket or similar?

Kbin magazines in the Fediverse/Mastodon - some issues

I have started a magazin here and made a couple of tests in Mastodon. Most important features works well: Mastodon users can subscribe und get the threads and micro-blob posts and they can post in the magazin. But there are a couple of issues:

  • After the usr subscribes the magazin, she/he gets the posts. But when she opens the account of the magazin though her/his mastodon account, the user sees only an empty account instead to see all the post since date of subscription like in a.gup.pe
  • If the subscribed mastodon user clicks on the hashtags, she/he doest get the posts/threads published in the magazin. Only posts in Mastodon and othe microblogging plattforms.
  • When the user receives the posts of the magazin, there is not indication in the post that they come from the magazin. For instance in a.gup.pe the user sees that the group boosted it. But OK, maybe it doesn't have a solution, and it is not really a bit issue.

ah, just making some propaganda :)
the magazin I have started is about plant/vegan milk, mostly focus in DIY

@elouboub +1 to this

@dragfyre @elouboub Mobilizon and Funkwhale are within the scope of my close interests, and I'll be playing with them soon. It seems that Funkwhale is currently throwing an error, but I quickly glanced at the payload and it appears to be something that can be fixed easily, at least until a deeper integration is done. I will keep you informed about the progress ;)

I've had a few days playing around with kbin now, and I really can't say enough good things about it!

It's still very early beta, but it aggregates groups from friendica, gup.pe and chirp and handles them in a smart interface. It also has dedicated reddit like groups (called magazines) that are cross compatible with lemmy. And best of all, you can set up Calckey like antenna for each magazine. This means that not only can you see content explicitly posted to the magazine, but there is a separate tab for content automatically aggregated from the wider fediverse

I've already created a bunch of magazines simply because there aren't many there yet, but I look forward to handing them over to other people once the userbase grows

@ernest, what an amazing platform you're developing!

@kbinmeta

whiny9130,

How do @ernest and @nutomic coordinate the specs for Lemmy & Kbin to be able to talk to each other?

@whiny9130 I just responded to that in another thread :)

How do I block another instance for my user on /kbin (I'm not a admin) I feel that when I read things from lemmy.ml by blood preassure is rising so I'd like to block it, so that I can explore the rest in peace.

ernest,
ernest avatar

@jeena Unfortunately, it is currently only possible from the admin level. You can block a magazine, a person, or a domain. So far, it simply hasn't been necessary because these communities weren't being followed by anyone. Now that has quickly changed. I plan to introduce such an option soon. But it seems to me that the problem lies deeper. I am also working on a more global solution as I simply don't want to host certain content on my servers.

dannekrose,

@ernest @jeena I saw the area for showing your own blocks, but how do I actually block a domain? I see how to block a user or magazine but where do I block a domain as a user? I suspect that would be good enough for many.

I created a magazine and entered some tags for automatically collect information. I also linked a lemmy community via https link.

It seems that I have to open the thread and then click a second time to open a browser web page containing the community.

I have seen other magazines where you can select a linked community directly and jump to it with clicking a second time. Also the community is presented in kbin with the note on top thst the shown data maybe not complete.

How is this done?

My magazine created is steamdeck see what I mean

Barbarian,

Hello from Lemmy!

lens_r,

Hi there fellow kbin users! I am very new to the platform and notice something quite strange going on: posts and comments have loads more favorites than upvotes. To me, if I like a post and want other people to see it, then I should upvote it, right? Why are people favoriting more than upvoting?

Cougar,

If that post is shared to Mastodon or similar then it'll likely have more favorites because those platforms don't have upvotes.

sadomaru,

Because we're on lemmy, and lemmy upvotes are favourites here

cosmicsploogedrizzle,

Can we favorite Magazines, or just Posts/threads for now? On reddit Sync (3rd party android app) I liked being subscribed to most topics of interest, but for others I only liked to view them once in a while. Favoriting them meant that I wouldn't be subscribed but also I wouldn't have to search to find them, especially when some had unique names that I had trouble remembering.

I'm new to kbin and still trying to grasp the platform's organization. One question I have is: Who bears the responsibility for moderating the magazines? Is it the user who opens them or the platform's dedicated moderators?

ernest,
ernest avatar

@kjr Hello, it works similarly to subreddits - the creator of the magazine receives moderation tools, access to reports, and can also appoint moderators from among the users of the instance. The instance administrator also has such tools in case of extreme violations.
