The more I experiment with #Mastodon and #ActivityPub more broadly, the more I am convinced that it’s possible to build a #Patreon replacement on the #Fediverse
Patreon is a closed platform, but it’s a key tool for many content creators to make a living out of their work: writers, video makers, podcasters, and so on
A Fediverse alternative would basically bridges a payment system with tiered access based on payment status
Even with #Zapier, I think it could already be done!
Many communities haven’t moved to #Mastodon — and many will never move. This could be an issue, as you may need some form of critical mass of users for such a tool to make sense.
But with the rapid expansion of the #Fediverse, especially with #Threads, this question will soon be solved
Instead of pitching “subscribe to my Patreon to fund my work” and sending people to another, completely different and siloed app, people would basically be able to access private posts everywhere.
Even with #Zapier, I think it could already be done!

That would be for the best, as it is possibly the poorest implementation of the Fediverse. There's many alternatives that are actually much better, but don't live off of the marketing hype that Mastodon does. Pleroma is much simpler to set up, much less resource heavy, and actually allows you to configure the length of posts for instance. I honestly wonder why people get so horny over Mastodon when really, it's actually not that good.
@o_simardcasanova Compromising one proprietary tool for another seems like a pretty dumb move, though. You're not really improving the situation here, which makes me wonder why you're promoting #Zapier of all potential solutions.
Also, the remark on #Pleroma is mostly due to your post portraying #Mastodon as the only potential #Fediverse platform to move to, which is disingenuous and rude to the Fediverse as a whole, which existed before Mastodon even became a thing.
