The more I experiment with #Mastodon and #ActivityPub more broadly, the more I am convinced that it’s possible to build a #Patreon replacement on the #Fediverse
Patreon is a closed platform, but it’s a key tool for many content creators to make a living out of their work: writers, video makers, podcasters, and so on
A Fediverse alternative would basically bridges a payment system with tiered access based on payment status
Even with #Zapier, I think it could already be done!
Even with #Zapier, I think it could already be done!
But Zapier is itself a proprietary tool, so you want to switch one proprietary tool for another...> Many communities haven’t moved to #Mastodon
That would be for the best, as it is possibly the poorest implementation of the Fediverse. There's many alternatives that are actually much better, but don't live off of the marketing hype that Mastodon does. Pleroma is much simpler to set up, much less resource heavy, and actually allows you to configure the length of posts for instance. I honestly wonder why people get so horny over Mastodon when really, it's actually not that good.
@o_simardcasanova Compromising one proprietary tool for another seems like a pretty dumb move, though. You're not really improving the situation here, which makes me wonder why you're promoting #Zapier of all potential solutions.
Also, the remark on #Pleroma is mostly due to your post portraying #Mastodon as the only potential #Fediverse platform to move to, which is disingenuous and rude to the Fediverse as a whole, which existed before Mastodon even became a thing.
Question about #zapier's SDK and making it work with oauth 1.1:
How?
Specifically, their Twilio and Twitter examples seem to work with the "authentication" step, yet they fail to sign/authenticate POST requests for triggers and actions.
It's like some critical piece of information is being omitted from the samples, and the whole thing is too opaque to determine what's missing.
And sure, maybe I should reach out to them and ask. But they don't officially support oauth1.1, so I'd probably have to be representing some kind of heavy hitter to pique their interest in finding a solution.
... hmm. Well, I suppose I kind of am. I'll try that in the new year.
I'm using Ghost's blog software for my website. The only integrated option for the native #newsletter tool is #Mailgun.
Sadly, I don't have the know-how to run my own bulk mail server.
Do I best stick with Mailgun or do I go for option two, use a Czech-based #Zapier alternative (Make) that integrates with a German-hosted newsletter service? Or a 3rd option?
@keila Can you think of a solution in conjunction with #keila to send a #newsletter based on a #rss#feed? Like a #newsalert that is either triggered with every new feed item or even better always aggregating the last three items? 😜 I did something similar for a client back in my kubus media days based on #campaignmonitor.
@keila Ah, interesting! Yes, please add me! I would love to take a look. Though I have to admit that I have tried to avoid using #zapier so far and might still prefer to wait for a homemade solution within #keila. 😆
