joesbrat67,

Hi all -

This one is directed to those who have migrated from to .

I'm curious to see if the decision to migrate has worked out well for you, or are you having buyer's remorse?

So far, so good here...outside of the ongoing site maintenance over the last few days. Beyond that, I feel like it's definitely a step up.

How 'bout you?

Duchess,

@joesbrat67 calckey has tons more features and is more customizable. it also has cuter emojis and notification beeps

Punko,

@joesbrat67 absolutely loving it. I created this account a little bit ago as a potential replacement for a #Mastodon account. Made the migration yesterday (I think, was it yesterday?), and have not looked back, since. Started a monthly small donation to the collective.
#CalckeyRocks

joesbrat67,

@Punko - Great minds think alike, as I did pretty much the same thing! The interface and customization options are just too much to not take advantage of. Hopefully, Mastodon code will catch up, but that make take a while.

Punko,

@joesbrat67 so.... #Mastodon has issues, for me. I would only go back to a Mastodon-affiliated instance if Gargron completely severed ties (and even then, it may be too late RE: #Meta). But, that is just me. I looked into #Pleroma and #Akkoma, but did not like either. I'm sticking with #Calckey.

joesbrat67,

@Punko - Yeah, I don't think I would go back. The design was too behind the times and often I would complain about how much the multi-column "special" view was too much like TweetDeck (RIP).

All-in-all, I think Calckey came along at the right time.

@joesbrat67 I love Calckey and I’m bullish on its potential. I look forward to the rebrand. My only issues are the lack of stability and not having any native apps. The PWA works fine though. I have had a significantly better experience as opposed to my time with my primary account on Mastodon.

joesbrat67,

@darth_akeda - rebrand?

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@joesbrat67 Yea, they are rebranding soon. The lead dev has mentioned it a couple of times

joesbrat67,

@darth_akeda - I was not aware of this. Why would they rebrand now, given the short window since the initial launch?

darth_akeda,
@darth_akeda@mastodon.social avatar

@joesbrat67 honestly not sure, @kainoa can maybe shed some light

kainoa,

@darth_akeda @joesbrat67 More info will be available soon. Many people aren't aware of this, but Calckey has been around for over a year.

irfan,

@joesbrat67 at least for the server i’m on (calckey.social) it has very frequent downtimes compared to my previous server (home.social), and it slows to a crawl during night time for me (GMT +8). It also has an extreme lack of supported (mobile) clients vs Mastodon.

Despite all that, I still choose to use because for reasons I couldn’t really single out or verbalise well, it offers me a way better experience than when I was on Mastodon. The lack of mobile client is not an issue since its works fantastically. The slowdowns and downtimes are an issue.. but could be mitigated by moving to a different instance that might not have these issues such as blahaj.zone or stop.voring.me - I just haven’t gotten to that point yet bcos I’m reluctant to lose my media-included posts.

Jdreben,

@irfan @joesbrat67 I am also on Calckey.social because I got excited when it opened, great and small community and it is obviously a time saver having Calc run it.

I'm also on Mastodon.world and love Ruud. He runs Calckey.world and if one is optimizing for stability and don't want to self host that instance is probably pretty great.

The move though is not centralizing. The software itself runs very stable, I believe! This server just is the biggest and gets the most bleeding edge updates and probably does not have dedicated devops / auto scaling.

I intend to shift to self hosting when I have the time in my life.

drakakis,

@joesbrat67

I haven't migrated per se. It's a second residence. I like Calckey a lot, but Mastodon on Elk is a bit more reliable and a bit more nimble. If I had to choose ... well, I don't have to, do I?

Melpomene,

@joesbrat67 it's been a bit since I used Mastodon, but Calckey feels more polished. It feels a little like old school Twitter meets old school Tumblr in a good way.

joesbrat67,

@Melpomene - I agree. Even functionally, it feels quite a bit different. And that's a good thing!

@joesbrat67 I'd like to see Mastodon adopt some of Calckey's features... not because I prefer Mastodon, but because it'd give the fediverse a broader appeal.

dbanty,

@joesbrat67 are there mobile apps that work with calckey?
