Is it time to mute the word Threads? Might be time to mute the word Threads.

Jdreben,

@box464 lmao that was fast. I guess that's what happens when Calckey makes it super easy to make emojis

Jdreben,

@SeaFury @pixiecata You're more generous than I am I think. I think I'm going to turn on soft mute indefinitely haha

Jdreben,

Here are my Mastodon filters. Did them all here in Calckey too but little more fun to have custom message for each filter.

Jdreben,

@blazeward7 yeah that's fair. I am just overwhelmed by how much talk there is. I feel like they've already federated with peoples' brains

And there it is, monetization before decentralization.

They're selling domains. I knew it.

@noondlyt oof such a grifty monetization move. Hate it

GOD I love Calckey. This software, the folk building it and using it. I feel good vibes

Absorbing rather than delegating compute, will be critical as websites with large audiences start embedding Fediverse posts in their articles.

I hope we educate news companies to run their own ActivityPub servers and absorb rather than deliver massive loads 😬

Jdreben,

@Sbectol This is the first I've heard of this idea too, but to a certain degree it makes perfect sense to me. Yes it would be extra work... But Ultimately if they take a screenshot the ownership issue is worse for them is it not?

certainly less issue of ownership if OG poster can schedule the post to be deleted or edited. I think if they just did what they're doing without activity pub and without embedding they still get all the traffic but they get none of the advantages of doing what BT proposed in terms of respecting OG poster's ownership. Idk just thoughts. totallh agree the too much work aspect in practice might make this impractical

I do so love helping somebody and being met with quiet silence (possible disdain), not even a "thank you" /s 🙃

Jdreben,

@JungleGeorge24 I responded with 😥 but realize that translates into a ⭐ so feel the need to clarify this post evoked sadness rafher fhan joy 😂

Jdreben, to random

in , It's not possible to follow hashtags in the home feed like on Mastodon right? It has to be done with antennas which cannot merge into the home feed..

Jdreben,

@Sbectol oh snap! That's good to know. Wow I did not know that. I thought they were separate feeds

A voice actor who licensed his voice to IBM in 2005 for use in a satellite navigation system found out the rights have been resold to an AI company that allows people to use his voice with their content.

He’s effectively losing work to his own voice powered by AI.

Jdreben,

@carnage4life Ugh I hate this Black Mirror episo-- wait. This is reality. F

recently I feel like my Calckey is super slow to load. This server just going through a bit of a hard time rn maybe. Probably new sign ups. Maybe time to self host... 🙈🙉

Jdreben,

Oh you know, it actually may be the sh*t ton of people and different servers I follow. Local feed seems to be snappy.

Jdreben,

@MariaTheMartian lmao I just saw this. Ty for the confirmation it's not just me

Instagram Threads vs Mastodon. Looks like an easy choice.

image/jpeg

Jdreben,

@justinionn I'll read this more closely but I'm SUPER confused by your actual advice to not use the Fediverse because of this. Isn't everything you're saying true of the internet at large? The internet itself is federated via protocols like ActivityPub. What of what you're saying is dangerous about the fediverse is not true of walled gardens? That they are more beholden to legal pressure?

echuta, to news

I just went into my Mastodon settings on my laptop and clicked on "following and followers" and then sorted the following list by "last active" and was very surprised to see that a lot of accounts I followed in the beginning here have not been active for months. I unfollowed them and now I'm searching for good high quality and accounts.

Jdreben,

@echuta easily seeing an account's activity breakdown is a very cool feature of that I sorely miss whenever I use Mastodon. I want to see a graph over time of the frequency of boosts and posts people make so I know if and how much they are active!

Curious if the misunderstanding the point of will ever end? We’re 8-9 months since the beginning of the bigger migration waves and I’m still constantly seeing “will mastodon ever succeed? Why is mastodon failing?”

We’re watching the media, in real time, have zero idea how to evaluate something unrelated to capitalism. Have we lost all ability to measure something without a quarterly report?

I want to start to organize these and make an effort to refute. Using something like is way too long and sounds like trying to make fetch happen but I like it.

Jdreben,

Agree with this very much. Some immediately come to mind but idk if good enough - MastoNots, Wrongtodons, ActivityFlubs.

Calckey, Elk, and Wefwef are 3 really amazing . Renews my interest in developing with web tech for mobile. Who needs native when you can do this shit in Typescript

Jdreben,

@USelaine This is the Mastodon rendering

Jdreben,

@USelaine Yes! Emojis are also all transformed to stars in mastodon. But if you view from Calckey you can see emoji reactions

Hi all -

This one is directed to those who have migrated from to .

I'm curious to see if the decision to migrate has worked out well for you, or are you having buyer's remorse?

So far, so good here...outside of the ongoing site maintenance over the last few days. Beyond that, I feel like it's definitely a step up.

How 'bout you?

Jdreben,

@irfan @joesbrat67 I am also on Calckey.social because I got excited when it opened, great and small community and it is obviously a time saver having Calc run it.

I'm also on Mastodon.world and love Ruud. He runs Calckey.world and if one is optimizing for stability and don't want to self host that instance is probably pretty great.

The move though is not centralizing. The software itself runs very stable, I believe! This server just is the biggest and gets the most bleeding edge updates and probably does not have dedicated devops / auto scaling.

I intend to shift to self hosting when I have the time in my life.
