And there it is, monetization before decentralization. #Bluesky
They're selling domains. I knew it.

@Sbectol This is the first I've heard of this idea too, but to a certain degree it makes perfect sense to me. Yes it would be extra work... But Ultimately if they take a screenshot the ownership issue is worse for them is it not?
certainly less issue of ownership if OG poster can schedule the post to be deleted or edited. I think if they just did what they're doing without activity pub and without embedding they still get all the traffic but they get none of the advantages of doing what BT proposed in terms of respecting OG poster's ownership. Idk just thoughts. totallh agree the too much work aspect in practice might make this impractical
in #Calckey, It's not possible to follow hashtags in the home feed like on Mastodon right? It has to be done with antennas which cannot merge into the home feed..
A voice actor who licensed his voice to IBM in 2005 for use in a satellite navigation system found out the rights have been resold to an AI company that allows people to use his voice with their content.
He’s effectively losing work to his own voice powered by AI.
recently I feel like my Calckey is super slow to load. This server just going through a bit of a hard time rn maybe. Probably new sign ups. Maybe time to self host... 🙈🙉
@justinionn I'll read this more closely but I'm SUPER confused by your actual advice to not use the Fediverse because of this. Isn't everything you're saying true of the internet at large? The internet itself is federated via protocols like ActivityPub. What of what you're saying is dangerous about the fediverse is not true of walled gardens? That they are more beholden to legal pressure?
I just went into my Mastodon settings on my laptop and clicked on "following and followers" and then sorted the following list by "last active" and was very surprised to see that a lot of accounts I followed in the beginning here have not been active for months. I unfollowed them and now I'm searching for good high quality #news and #politics accounts.
@echuta easily seeing an account's activity breakdown is a very cool feature of #Calckey that I sorely miss whenever I use Mastodon. I want to see a graph over time of the frequency of boosts and posts people make so I know if and how much they are active!
Curious if the #media misunderstanding the point of #mastodon will ever end? We’re 8-9 months since the beginning of the bigger migration waves and I’m still constantly seeing “will mastodon ever succeed? Why is mastodon failing?”
We’re watching the media, in real time, have zero idea how to evaluate something unrelated to capitalism. Have we lost all ability to measure something without a quarterly report?
I want to start to organize these and make an effort to refute. Using something like #MisunderstandingMastodon is way too long and sounds like trying to make fetch happen but I like it.
Calckey, Elk, and Wefwef are 3 really amazing #PWAs. Renews my interest in developing with web tech for mobile. Who needs native when you can do this shit in Typescript
@irfan@joesbrat67 I am also on Calckey.social because I got excited when it opened, great and small community and it is obviously a time saver having Calc run it.
I'm also on Mastodon.world and love Ruud. He runs Calckey.world and if one is optimizing for stability and don't want to self host that instance is probably pretty great.
The move though is not centralizing. The software itself runs very stable, I believe! This server just is the biggest and gets the most bleeding edge updates and probably does not have dedicated devops / auto scaling.
I intend to shift to self hosting when I have the time in my life.
