Two ways effects of sanctions

Local businesses in northern feel the sting of regional sanctions against neighboring .

Niger accounts for 75% of the total value of exports from Nigeria’s cross-border informal trade, according to a study by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

TiffyBelle,

As an interesting aside, due to the going through to the semi finals, is now almost assured a chance at redeeming herself in this tournament.

Her ban was extended to 2 games by FIFA after her against . She'll be eligible to play either in the final if they get there and, if not, the playoff for the third place spot.

A little surprised it wasn't a 3 game ban, but open for the redemption arc!

@wwc

Probertd8,

@TiffyBelle @wwc Yeah it was a dumb thing to do but she's young, learning & It doesn't seem to be her general attitude.

TiffyBelle,

I knew that Chloe Kelly's penalty to put England through against was an absolute rocket, but it turns out that it was in fact the fastest ever recorded at the Women's World Cup, clocking in at 111kph. This was even faster than any goal recorded in last season's ! 😮

I STILL dont get the comments from main media dn social media that "Dominated" or "Was a better team"... What are you talking ABOUT? domination is winning. Dominating is like France scoring 4 against another hyped team (Morocco). Not scoring and going to penalties IS NOT dominating or being the best on the pitch. Neither of them Dominated anything. and it was decide who was best at penalties. And English women were THE BEST

TiffyBelle,

@Twitter_expat Dominated, no. But England were on the back foot for most of the game even with 11 on the field and looked more likely to score, but didn't. It's right to give credit to a Nigerian team who dealt with 's main threats, like Lauren James, really well in how they lined up and their tactics, especially considering the disparity in team world ranking.

England deserve credit for their resilience to win the game too, though.

I belive the are going to set for a third place in this World Cup if miracles dont happen. Is that good enough for the European Champion? I say yes beacuse this is a World Cup so it makes sense. Now moving the top power position between or (maybe ) would be wild. Saying goodbye to USA domination is the end of an era. I honestly dont belive or will get that top position.

shauna,

I got 9 hours of sleep last night and it felt incredible.

Now it's time to watch on replay - rooting for and Iffy Onumonu but expecting to take it.

Looking at the rosters Nigeria has three NWSL stars (Iffy, Alozie, and Kanu) while England has no active NWSL players on their roster (tho they do have NWSL alum and drama magnet Daly).

I've come full circle: I got into NWSL by looking for WWC stars, now I root for WWC teams based on what NWSL players they have.

aaaand Sling TV cut out 2 PKs into the shootout.

I'm not surprised, SlingTV has been terrible, they just periodically lose parts of the games

Luckily I have a friend's account on Hulu I can log into to get the rest of this. But jeez, what a time to cut off the recording!

shauna,

@wwc

Maybe SlingTV was trying to save me from disappointment 😭 😭 😭

Nigeria came so close, they were the better team, but none of that matters once it goes to penalty kicks. God, I hate penalty kicks.

On to the Australia game...

Nigel_Lake,

Massive kudos to in the .
Judged on this performance, Nigeria thoroughly deaerved to advance. Football is a tough game. Nigeria will be back!

johnbranigan,

No idea how are still in this game. have been tremendous. England women will know they have been in a game tonight, out-muscled and run ragged.

If the junta continue ruling the country, they will have to cut the river Niger which flows downward to the major reason why Niger import 80% of electricity from Nigeria not to obstruct the river.
Niamey is in total darkness.

The power shortages are a result of cutting supplies to its northern neighbour, Niger's electricity company says.

The West trading bloc has imposed sanctions on Niger over the coup but has not said if these include supplies.

Ecowas defence chiefs are meeting in Nigeria to discuss the Niger crisis.

🔴 President Bola , who is at the helm of regional superpower , regards the coup across the border in as a litmus test for democracy in West

Having assumed the chairmanship of regional bloc a mere three weeks ago, he was confronted with a major foreign policy challenge when the military seized power in Niger - a strategic ally in the fight against militant Islamists wreaking havoc across much of West Africa and now open to Wagner-ϟϟ

Now add to this map, the latest military coups (incl. Wagner/Russia or not):

What do you understand from the map on the previous post?
That there's this big line of (mostly Russia-supported) military regimes separating the continent...
(And don't forget Wagner in CAR too, Russian military in many other countries, more military regimes or instability in other places).
