Are there any alternatives or respecting apps similar to ? I want a reader where I can save webpages to read later and possibly organise my bookmarks better. Most of my bookmarks are articles and documentation.

frank,

@Stark9837 Check out Omnivore.

guillaume,
hirad,

@Stark9837 you can try wallabag.
You can either selfhost it, or use wallabag.it.

@Stark9837 I used Pinboard, which is great. It's not open source, but it is private. I use it for all my read-later and longer term bookmarking needs. If you want to pay for it, it's also pretty cheap. Highly recommend. https://pinboard.in

@Stark9837 https://omnivore.app/ is a free, open-source read-it-later app. I’ve used it for a few months and have loved it so far. Might be what you’re looking for!

Recently, I decided to just open again and see what is going on in the world.

The app is basically useless for me now. I haven't used my account for anything except for the last three years, and they have no data on me. So naturally, there is no targetted news, and they don't allow you to customize much.

Crazy thing. My is actually quite fine-tuned, and I get great suggestions, but it is separate from the rest of my life. Then, I accendently opened and searched something without thinking, and it ruined my entire Youtube algorithm for weeks.

Just realised again how our content is filtered and tuned to whatever they think we want to see.

I don't want this to happen due to services like and really need a respecting and preferably solution!

One thing that I just love about is how we can filter, mute, and block things.

1 day into the recent sale, I blocked the term "Amazon Prime" because I still wanted to see other Amazon related news and technology.

I didn't see anything again. I can also easily mute or block accounts that are simply irrelevant to me, such as local news in other countries or trending topics I don't care about.

My timeline is my own.

@Stark9837 do you know of a way to mute an entire server from your timeline? I keep seeing sportsbot.xyz accounts in my feed and I don’t care at all about sports. I’ve been muting accounts from that server for weeks but there are hundreds of them.

@moelassus

It is possible, I think you need to do it on a desktop. I definitely know that you can do it because I've done it before and actually saw it this week when I was changing some settings. I'll have a look and let you know!

@moelassus

On the app, in your profile, I can block your entire instance

Stark9837,
@Stark9837@techhub.social avatar

@moelassus

In the app, also on your profile, I can click "block domain"

moelassus,
@moelassus@mastodon.social avatar

@Stark9837 That did it! I don’t have either of those apps but the browser client allowed me to do it. Thank you so much!!

@moelassus

Anytime! I found it early on and quickly cleaned up my public timeline of a few instances that I had no desire to see.

kmstrube81,

@Stark9837 this is definitely one of the best parts of mastodon and what makes it infinitely more useful than twitter. You can actually see the content you want to see and not some content an algorithm has decided you are most likely to engage with. Reminds me of the early years of social media before it became toxic

    @mikebaarda

    Well, their main goal is to analyze your data and make predictions for you. I actually like my suggested content on Youtube and wouldn't use it without it.

    What I don't like is just watching so MKBHD video or another tech review and then amazing tries to sell me the same phone, and it just takes over all ads on other pages.

    Clearly, they can predict my interests but not my income. They give me way too much credit.

    tcuthbert,

    @Stark9837 wallabag

    @jbzfn@mastodon.social avatar

    @tcuthbert @Stark9837 Despite being owned by Mozilla they force cookies on you for ads. That hasn't changed since the acquisition.

    I wonder if they still collect cookies even if you're a premium user, premium users don't get ads but that doesn't mean they stopped collecting your info.

    Wallabag seems like a great alternative either way.

    @jbzfn @tcuthbert

    Yeah, that's the problem. It's useless if I don't see any ads from them, but I'll still be rracked elsewhere.
