#Plex has sooo many bugs. I tried to build a smart playlist that lists movies not watched in 5 years. It doesn't just match the LAST watched date like it's supposed to, it matches ANY watched date. And there's no hope of it getting fixed because, like Apple, "Plex doesn't fix bugs!"
@TWSheppard @jann that's a good question. I'm not sure. My server is on Linux with Docker (Unraid). I thought they were always on the same version across server platforms, but I never really looked. Might be worth posting on the Plex forums or maybe @plexamp can chime in
@adrian
Remote Access always shows "Not available outside your network" (well it initially shows "available" but soon switches to "not available") yet I can pretty reliably access music using Plex Amp over the internet.
I've been a really happy #Plex user for many years - have loved it, paid $100/year and invested a lot of time to get my #movies, #TVShows, and #music collections set up the way I want them.
@tartley
They're continually updating Plexamp, and that's unrivaled in what it does. As far as Jellyfin, Plex still has the best client support by many miles
@peribotsarahInfuse is the one I've been using for Apple devices. It's mostly good, except that it has a very strong preference for direct play with no apparent override. I have an older Apple TV that struggles with a couple of bigger encodes in my library, so it'd be handy to switch to a transcoded version when needed.
I’m trying to watch OTA TV on #Plex for Roku but it keeps crashing. So I switch to Plex on the Apple TV and it keeps stalling and bailing out back to the guide. Switching channels takes 10 seconds.
My ancient copy of EyeTV running on macOS Sierra is vastly more stable. I have 3 tuners connected and it’s capable of showing and recording all 3 simultaneously while playing back a recording on a 2014 Mac mini.
Today’s devs have never seen a quality product so they develop flaky products too.
Last year, I tried out #jellyfin, and found it great, but it missed one (for me) must-have feature; HDR support in the LG app. This made me stick with #plex.
But as Plex has gotten more enshittified, yesterday I decided to give Jellyfin another try. Happy to say that I can now watch HDR videos on my LG TV.
For the rest, I'm quite impressed with it. The only thing missing is a "skip intro" feature.
@ainmosni I also have hardware encoding enabled. It's weird, like I said, most of my media doesn't need transcoding, but when it does, it gets transcoded at around 200 FPS. I'm not even playing any ridiculous files, everything is 1080p SDR. But still, the stream very often crashes and lags :(
@alisynthesis 🤣 I never watched the Doggett stuff as a kid but we watched the whole thing a couple times now and it's such a great ride. Only thing that kinda sucks is the stuff with their kid. But oh well, it's in there.
MusicBrainz Picard is really good, open source and cross-platform. If your music folder is a chaotic mess of unsorted, untagged files, give it a try, it works like magic.
for last.fm users dragging their feet like me, because all those 'smart' quotes blow up your last.fm stats: there's an option to dumbify them. i wish i had known this a year earlier #MusicBrainz#LastFM#picard#unicode
