I am now (well 9 years since I first "pre-ordered" it) the unproud owner of https://had.dad. And yes I think this is about the dumbest purchase I've made in a long long time.
@paul As someone who owns a similar last-name domain (nels.onl): it's worth it. Mostly because of the personal cool factor you feel when you get to use it. Then again, mine was cheap.
@jeffperry@paul I was thinking a 2 part series. Part 1 starts in jeff.limo where we get to share the experience of how ridiculous it must be to buy and own a limo. At the end it links to jeff.fail where we learn why no-one should own a limo.
@paul now you need ulhad.dad for your ultimate personal email address: p@aulhad.dad
i have a very similar personal email, and lond.re for my family. yes, very stupid, but worth it!
@paul I wanted to register a 7-letter dictionary word ending in '.dad', but I knew that by the time the sunrise period ended it would have been snapped up by someone else.
Your post reminded me to check, just in case.
Thanks to you, I am now the proud owner of craw.dad and, honestly, it's hard to say which of us made the dumber purchase.
(I really wanted doo.dad, but that one WAS taken).
@paul Yes, even the standard price is too much to pay for a joke domain (although domain prices are creeping up, so the gap is narrowing).
Of course, when my impulse purchase sets me on a path to become the founder of a globe-spanning commercial empire that dominates the prestigious crayfish futures market, I may see things differently.
@paul I tracked the whole process for .radio domains getting approved for years and jumped on toast.radio the minute registrations opened, figuring there’d be a rush.
Naturally in the years since, I’ve never seen another .radio in the wild. 🙄
@paul I do it all the time. If it gives you joy and doesn’t break the bank - go for it! Why earn money if you don’t use it for yourself from time to time?😁
@paul Depends... will it provide you more than momentary joy? Will you be saddled with unmitigated, crushing guilt over your whim of a purchase for the next 50 years? (ie buying a boat) Or will it create a fond memory you'll appreciate into your latter years? (splurge on an ice cream on a sunny day with a friend by the seashore...)
