@organicmaps I’m only familiar with Swift and SwiftUI, but I really like contributing updates to map data in my rural area.
It’s where I live but also where I find map data too be the most lacking, so I’ll happily help improve things for everyone.

Till now I've been using OSM via OSMAnd~.
Can you please give me a hint, why I should change over to Organic Maps?
@organicmaps I will gladly switch to the Organic Maps if they have few features I use daily.
On the bus stops/train stations there's no drive plan displayed.
There's no (or I just can't find it) option to easily import my data like points, favorites, etc from the g-maps.
Night mode is an unusable nightmare! I can't see anything at all when this option is turned on, on my amoled. I like and mostly use dark themes, modes because of my eyes, but this particular one is totally messed up.
Don't add too many features. Nobody needs a second #OsmAnd. Don't get me wrong – I love both OsmAnd and OrganicMaps, but I need them to remain different.
@organicmaps@chpietsch Yes, but people need some basic functionalities. Typing by hand hundreds of poi's okay, it is doable, but try to do it by yourself. Simple does not mean that something must be primitive.
@MartinBe 1. Public transport is planned. It’s a big effort that requires a lot of resources and online services too. With your donations we can do that!
2. There are several instructions in the internet how to export your data from Google Maps and convert it to KML to import into Organic Maps. 3. Dark mode was done for drivers at night, not for the daylight dark theme lovers. We plan to add a separate map style for the daylight. You can help to develop it ;-)
Ad2. Okay, I haven't seen this anywhere. Thnx for the info.
Ad3. Even in the total darkness I can barely see anything on the screen. Black or dark-grey letters on the very dark backgrounds is a not an particularly wise or cool design idea. Even an amoled 6"+ screen size and full display brightness does not helps. The dark/night mode is still a piece of usability junk. Sorry, but it is as it is. Perhaps a bit different color palette would be a way better choice? Seems so.
@MartinBe@organicmapshttps://www.howtogeek.com/725241/how-to-download-your-google-maps-data/ has some instructions on exporting your gmaps data to a format you can import, Google even allows doing so on a schedule. While OM will likely not support a more direct import (as that'd require GMaps API fees), I agree it'd be helpful to add some instructions / links in the FAQ. Maybe open a ticket?
@organicmaps@MartinBe unfortunately it doesn't look like it, the previous API got removed about a decade ago. Some people are doing URL hacking once you have a Google account session, but nothing officially supported.
@Neblib@organicmaps I know how to take/export my data from the gm, but this gives me totally nothing if I can't import them into the om app.
If I am not wrong there is a way to import it into the osmand app. So why not here?
@organicmaps looking forward to the ruler! I often start a route with a few rough points, to see how long it and an alternative would be. Especially when I'm placing many points or a very long distance, the recalculations between adding each pin are unnecessary, so this will speed it up :blobcataww:
@skome one of our goals is to teach users about OpenStreetMap.org, another goal is to improve OpenStreetMap via a better editor. We rely on OSM, we are grateful to every mapper, and want to contribute back better, when we get enough resources for that.
@pietervdvn we already have the Editor in Organic Maps. Did you try it? Plans are to focus on the easy UX and engage as many non-geeks as possible to contribute data. When we’ll get enough funding, we can even work on something more ambitious like helping to detect and add road signs, street names and house numbers, and some other cool things that big tech companies are doing now but for different reasons they don’t contribute everything back to OpenStreetMap.org.
@organicmaps Yeah, well, as main dev of MapComplete I already focus a lot on the 'non-geek'-segment which is interested into contributing. Will you be on SOTM-EU? We should have a talk
