Having a private VPN is cool, on the train in Italy, but connected to my home network! On the not-cool other hand I just got fined 50EUR for not validating a bus ticket after getting off the plane.
I think I know why I like #SelfHosting so much. It’s very anticapitalistic in the sence that I get to own the services I host instead of just paying rent on them.
@whynothugo yeah, we have to find ways of supporting open source vs paying rent on proprietary software and services. This will be better for us down the line
If you want to know how many #Framadate polls have been created (plenty), how many emails your #Framalistes and #Framagroupes send out per day (loads), all maintained by how many humans (not many): it's all in the article!
#Immich looks interesting, but now I've already set up #Photoprism on #NixOS on my Pi. And the fact that you need like five docker containers to run Immich vs one NixOS service configuration for Photoprism doesn't make it any more appealing.
@niklaskorz I'm new to NixOS, but what is that service configuration you're refering to? Is it another way to containerize the applications? Or more likely a more structured way to run them bare metal?
It’s unreal how fast YouTube went from a few unobtrusive ads to a FUCKING NIGHTMARE HELLSCAPE OF INSANELY LONG ULTRA-INTRUSIVE ADS FOR SHITTY PRODUCTS.
@Green_Footballs oh, they are trying to punish us. Here’s another example:
I have disabled history on yt and now my homepage is … blank! It could have been my subscriber page now that I don’t have any recommendations, but they didn’t do that.
I can picture the YT manager when he decided this.
“Asking people to approve access that they know they don't fully understand and that they couldn't monitor even if they did understand it does not empower them. On the contrary, it trains them to be despondent, helpless at the hands of the High Priesthood of Computer Whisperers. And our job as technologists building a better world is to eradicate the High Priesthood.”
Does anyone have a #NextCloud instance, running on something more powerful than a Raspberry Pi, that would be willing to give me an account there? Needs to be Hub 6 / NC 27. I'd like to compare the performance differences as I'm curious if the UI is just Poor or if it's the Pi struggle-busing.
@mez I don’t think I can give you an account, but I could have a demo and show you. It’s not sluggish at all, perhaps only when navigating between different NC apps.
