@MattBinder someone was complaining that mastodon is no replacement for pre-muskrat bird app. it's true, but it's also true that current bird app is no replacement for actual twitter. that's why they bought it. they wanted to destroy it and they did. it's funny to hear the liberals still say things like, "Oh man, Musk is going to regret buying twitter. He's losing so much money."
A. Musk a billionaire many times over. His life is unchanged.
B. It's not all Musk's money. He's in the billionaire's club. He's gambling with house's money (e.g. the money they steal from us). It doesn't matter to him.
@MattBinder@hankgreen should really get off Twitter, because their moderation has turned to absolute shit.
Mastodon/Fedi servers may not be perfect, but at least there's some accountability to server owners and moderators, in the form of migrating to a different server, or blocking remote servers that refuse to moderate properly.
@MattBinder Meta also suffers from that issue a lot. They do not filter or review promoted content, some of which I found was definitely made to commit wire fraud. Reports about abuse or fraud aren't taken seriously.
@MattBinder Same with literal video game footage. I'm not sure what is more embarrassing - that people make and post this crap, or that people fall for it over and over again.
@MattBinder the platform is awash with “verified” users posting disinformation and supposed OSINT accounts who post videos but won’t mention the source. You expect a certain level of chaos in these situations, but I don’t think the signal to noise ratio has ever been this bad.
@MattBinder I think this was part of his goal when buying that site. Flood the zone with disinformation so no one trusts anything. Societies with low levels of trust tend to rush toward fascism
@MattBinder In #Canada recent legislation ( #billC18 ) that came into force basically said social media sites and search engines can't link directly to legitimate Canadian#news sources without paying or negotiating some #compensation directly to those news sources. Seems fair, I mean they #scrape the articles and shove them in your faces with their own ads, stripping off the news site's ads.
Facebook and Google responded with a tantrum. "Pay? For news we scrape? FINE, NO NEWS FOR ANYONE". 1/
I cannot stress this enough... do not get "news" from tweets. I have seen literally dozens of videos of things that happened years ago but say they happened recently last two hours.
