@futurebird
this week i also learned about threaded insert nuts which are used for screwing bolts into wood, because bolts don't grip into wood, but screws do..
@futurebird
They missed:
Dowel nuts
Chicago nuts (aka Chicago screws, binding posts, binding nuts, binding barrels, sex bolts, barrel bolts, interscrews, barrel nuts, on and on)
Serrated flange nuts (as opposed to smooth flange nuts)
Threaded insert nuts
Flare nuts
Reverse nuts
So many wonderful nuts out there!
@futurebird@Condorito does anyone have a good pointer to visuals for, like, all hardware and tools? I feel like I spend a huge chunk of my life not able to realize there’s an easy solution for something because, for instance, I never knew what the word “flange” meant and now that I loosely do, I can never think of it as a search term.
@futurebird i mean why aren’t all hex nuts flanges? since you’re gonna put a washer anyway…right? (i’m not super knowledgeable, i didn’t even know flanges existed)
@futurebird As a little kid, I'd help my dad sort nuts and bolts. Always loved the wing nut. Despite this vast experience😄 I had no idea there were so many names for these. Thanks for the nutty brain break; fun.
