I'm upset at my youngest brother, who just told me he doesn't want to get #covid booster because he's heard this newest one has too many side effects. I'm wearing my masks at home & going to protest against my own brother, in shared family home.
I just told him that my domestic protest begins today & will continue until he gets his booster. I am marking my N95 masks with protest words this morning.
@msquebanh 🙄ugh, I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. Here’s some anecdotal evidence for him: everyone in my family has gotten this booster & not one of us had any unusual side effects. I had, in fact, no side effects at all other than a sore arm that evening.
@peterbutler Sorry to hear that. It's incredibly upsetting that my brother has fallen into the disinformation traps. Especially when he knows what happened to our Dad & how much I need our family & friends to take covid seriously.
@msquebanh Not that it will make much difference, but my experience with the latest COVID booster was quite contrary to what he's been told: I had no reaction except some tenderness and very slight swelling at the injection site. No fever, sickness, etc.
I had a worse reaction to the shingles vaccine, but I'd still take it again.

I also have had zero reactions to any of the vaccines...
Injection site for shingles was lingering but my second one is tomorrow & I am totally vaccinated for everything.

@palin@NovemberMan I'm unable to get any shots due to medical issues & almost dying from regular flu shot. I want vaccine but unable to get any shots. It's another reason why I'm militant about protecting myself & am upset when family & friends know my predicament & still refuse to get shots & mask up. I barely have any social circle anymore because I found out, hard way, most folks don't care if I live or die & won't take simple mask precautions seriously around me.
@msquebanh@palin honestly, most people don't care if any of us live or die; it's just a numbers game, so I don't take it personally, I just protect myself and my family best that I can.

@NovemberMan@palin I don't take it personally unless it is by people who claim to love & care about me but show me different by lack of aligning actions. I don't expect much from strangers but I did expect more from loved ones.

I am one of maybe 6 people in my area that wears a mask.
There's people that follow science & then there's the rest that I think drank mining water.
@msquebanh When my mother “protected” my grandmother by refusing to get her vaccinated, I did the math - and it turned out she was 28,000 times more likely to die from #COVID than experience a serious side effect.
Despite doing hard math every day for 20+ years at her jobs in real estate and finance, she couldn’t believe the numbers.
I read a toot somewhere where someone was saying the only time they got covid was when they were around people without masks. they got it from their roommate and started wearing n-95s any time they weren't in their own room. so your response is reasonable.
@msquebanh By doing so, you're also helping to protect your brother. And everyone else in the world who could catch asymptomatic covid from you if you caught it from your brother.
@bike Yes, I got Mom on board with wearing in house too. My other brother also wore one because he doesn't live with us & recently returned from work trip in Ontario. I don't wear masks outdoors in settings where I'm not at high risks of infection. I also wear masks in cars with people who haven't got any shots & who have been in high risk environments.
@msquebanh I don't understand why people make up their own medical advice. I have colleagues too who decided COVID vaccines are bad for women so they won't get it. 🤷🏻♀️🤔
@msquebanh I got the new booster and the flu shot at the same time and there were side effects for me but mainly just a sore arm and feeling a bit wonky for a day.
@lupus_blackfur@DemocracyMattersALot My focus is on educating him more & putting heavy pressure to get boosted or endure day/night protesting by me. He is putting me & my Mom at risk. I won't let him rest until he does right by his family/us - we are higher risk.
@msquebanh Yes. That really is the problem. People hear something like "vaccine caused all these cardio issues in young men!" enough times and they start to believe it might be true.
When the truth is actually that catching Covid dramatically increases cardiopulmonary events! 😩
@_L1vY_ I'm trying to arrange a vid call with a friend's 21 yr old son. He was an avid rugby player until covid hit him. He's now partially paralyzed from long covid & unable to play rugby. My brother needs to hear more living survivor voices like that.
@msquebanh Oh, you've heard about the side effects? Yeah, there are thousands of people who experience them, out of billions. Maybe it's a wholesale education programme in mathematics that we really need?
@jimllmixit Preaching to paralyzed choir. I support vaccines despite being paralyzed by polio one in 70s. It saved billions of lives. I understand virology & vaccine science. My brother doesn't & his head got poisoned by right winger media influences.
I'm going to protest & deprogram my brother. Who apparently forgot our Dad died from long covid - in June. I'm pretty POed right now.
@msquebanh I've worked in local government, specifically welfare benefits, for over 26 years & there are still members of my family who know how things "really are" when it comes to the struggles of people today.
