I just registered to the album Fight With Tools for the first time in years... And damn it still holds up. Its call to action against injustice rings very true today. It's a shame that the most pessimistic song, Handlebars, is the one most people remember. The whole album is a driving force, and I recommend a (re)listen

People on Twitter are debating whether a person using uncommon words like "delve" are trying to sound smarter than they are, or worse, are ChatGPT bots, because "normal" people don't talk like that.

You don't have to get upset, or embroiled in the debate. Not worth the time or attention. But I'll share some important context as your friendly neighborhood Nigerian 🙋🏿‍♂️

Many Nigerians have bigger English language vocabularies and better command of grammar than the typical American or English person

@mekkaokereke
I had a conference between American DoD reps and African Union reps, and my fellow officers (college educated Americans) complained about the "big words" that the Nigerian presenter used. To this day, I have no idea what words they considered big, but it was an enlightening glimpse into the narrowing vocabularies of my fellow Americans.

Having a non-native speaking spouse also made me realize that most Americans speak primarily in slang and idioms.

Trump knows abortion bans are incredibly unpopular and his campaign is scrambling to come up with a “moderate” policy. But there’s no moderation when it comes to our reproductive freedom. We’re organizing to stop Trump and restore abortion rights for every American: https://act.indivisible.org/survey/majority_over_maga_signup?source=mastodon&medium=directpost

    Once upon a time, in a land quite surreal, Lived a weary old knight named Antonius Block, oh what a deal! He’d returned from the crusades, all tired and glum, And guess who he met? None other than Death, the one who’s no fun!

    “Greetings,” said Death, with a bony grin, “Let’s play some chess, and your life we’ll begin. If you win, you get to keep breathing, my friend, But if I win, well, your story will end.”

    So they sat down to play, on a hilltop so high, The pieces moved slowly, under the sky. Block pondered his moves, his squire by his side, Jons watched in awe, eyes open wide.

    Through plague-infested lands, they wandered along, Met actors and jesters, sang merry songs. Jof and Mia, with their baby so sweet, And Jonas Skat, their manager, quite upbeat.

    They danced and they laughed, in a tavern so bright, But Raval the villain, oh, what a fright! He bullied poor Jof, made him dance like a bear, Till Jons stepped in, with a knife in the air.

    “Let’s escape this plague,” said Block with a plan, To his castle they’d go, away from Death’s hand. But Death was quite clever, he knew their intent, And checkmate he cried, their fate firmly bent.

    Other than murdering Mustapha, Scar was a progressive leader that tried to incorporate an exiled, oppressed minority back into society. He didn't promise them revenge. He promised them equality and food. It's not his fault that the savanna experienced a blight.
    Mustapha also enforced his right to rule via threats and violence. No one mentions how wise he is. Only how strong and scary he is. If there wasn't a drought, Scar might have been remembered as a revolutionary visionary.

    I would have loved something like this in the cockpit of some of the planes I flew. You could have a space efficient screen for the tinier cockpits or a hud in the canopy itself (assuming the tech works as well as imagined, which I'm assuming is nowhere near the case).

    But I can see some good industrial use cases as long as the engineers don't turn it into a distraction.
