Deadass, if Biden's admin lets this go through with the NLRB, I don't wanna hear shit about "oh but he's our best option"

this man can (and has) sign off and pay for the murder of children and people will clap and dance

dangoodin,

@jalcine

The math is clear: assuming Trump wins the Republican nomination, either he wins or Biden wins. No other candidate will have even the remotest chance of winning. Since a Trump win will rain down irreparable horrors not seen in 100 years, Biden, sadly, is the better option by a margin that's impossible to overstate. It pains me to say this, but it's true.

@dangoodin Voting for Biden again will lock in that the remainder of my family won't ever be able to come into the US, that the rise of police violence that threatens my siblings in NYC will continue and that labor movements will crumble.

The activists of the past (and of today, like those who died in Ferguson under Obama and through Biden's co-authored crime bill of '94) that people like to praise did not move in a state of concession and I refuse to limit the imagination and faith I have in people and that I've seen demonstrated even last year into a reductive place of the "lesser of two evils". That's a luxury that some can have but I can't.

dangoodin,

@jalcine

Okay, but if Trump retakes the White House because left-leaning folks couldn't stomach Biden, do you believe your family will be better off? I'm wagering they will be much, much worse off. Seriously, Trump is to 2024 what Hitler was ~100 years ago. If Trump retakes the White House, it's game over.

jalcine,
@jalcine@todon.eu avatar

@dangoodin @dangoodin The things that Biden expanded were polices that Trump expanded that were also ones that Obama put into place.

It's very dangerous to imply that Trump is this "wild card" of a Hilter situation when Biden is executing a genocide RIGHT now and Obama signed off mass murder across North Africa, South America and parts of India through foreign policy. Let's ignore for a moment too how much the US supported Hilter's regime through computational resources given by some of tech's legacy orgs (IBM).

Left-leaning folks have been working to mitigate the damage of every presidency since they've been around. Hoping that people who are removed from our realities is no different than praying to kings who had no problem killing the poor for profit (which, mind you, happens under even our more 'liberal' presidents, on their accord).

The better question has to be how do we drive the populace to get someone of integrity IN the office versus hoping that they grow a conscience one day. A prime example of this is the work done in Chicago to get their new mayor in (a socialist): https://inthesetimes.com/article/brandon-johnson-chicago-mayor-paul-vallas-victory

dangoodin,

@jalcine

If Trump wins and follows through on all the horrors he has openly promised, it will give me zero pleasure to point out how mistaken your position is.

jalcine,
@jalcine@todon.eu avatar

@dangoodin That's your sole response?

dangoodin,

@jalcine

No, it's not my sole response, but it is my primary response. And so far you haven't pointed out any reason why it's wrong and how or why the world would be better off with Trump in the White House rather than Biden.

phaedral,
@phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin @jalcine Okay, if this is your conclusion, then instead of talking about how much it pains you, maybe start actually campaigning for Biden/Harris2024. Please. Sometimes sharing our thoughts does more harm than good, sometimes we are better acting on our conclusions convincingly and congruently.

dangoodin,

@phaedral @jalcine

Expressing your thoughts that sometimes it's better not to express your thoughts. 🤔

phaedral,
@phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin @jalcine Yup. We can get as meta as we like here, if you prefer.

Sharing your doubts spreads doubt. Sharing your enthusiasm spreads enthusiasm. If you can't do the latter, silence at least avoids the former.

dangoodin,

@phaedral @jalcine

Pot, meet kettle.

phaedral,
@phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin @jalcine You realize that's a tacit admission that I've made my point, and the weakest of ad hominem attacks, right?

I've a wealth of unexpressed thoughts, even at this moment.

Meanwhile, if you want to help defeat Trump, share your enthusiasm for Biden/Harris2024. Sharing your doubts hurts more than it helps.

Take the last word if you like.

dangoodin,

@phaedral @jalcine

I'm sorry. I didn't intend it to be hominem. Like @jalcine, I have serious criticisms of Biden, and it would be disingenuous for me to say things that belied those criticisms. Why is he allowed to express doubts and those who disagree with him aren't?

phaedral,
@phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin @jalcine I offered the last word, then answered your question. Apologies for being inconsistent. The last word is yours if you like. Peace.

dangoodin,

@phaedral @jalcine

Nice duck. Peace to you as well.

phaedral,
@phaedral@mastodon.social avatar

@dangoodin @jalcine I've got no power to say what is an isn't allowed. I do have the power to observe one can sew doubt, which helps Trump, or one can spread confidence and enthusiasm, which helps Biden.

Silence is also an option.

I've all manner of criticisms about things I genuinely love. I endeavor to be judicious about when and with whom I share such criticism. I endeavor to make sure sharing helps, rather than hurts, that which I seek to help.

dangoodin,

@phaedral @jalcine

I still don't see why it's wrong for me to sew doubt without it also being wrong for @jalcine to do the same.

@dangoodin any Republican winning would be just as bad. Any of them would pardon Trump and he’ll still be pulling the strings.

dangoodin,

@mikec415
Very bad, yes. Just as bad, no, for a bunch of reasons.

todb,

@dangoodin @mikec415 I saw the other day:

Hold your nose and vote for Biden, and in 2028, hopefully you’ll have a better, more progressive choice to vote for

Vote for anyone else running, and you’ll never have to vote again.

dangoodin,

@todb @mikec415

Thank you Tod. This crystallizes perfectly the point I was trying to make to @jalcine

lucas,

@todb @dangoodin @mikec415 Or, don't support either of the corrupt two-party system, and instead vote for an independent candidate, who is not beholden to lobbyists, super PACs, MiC, etc.

Lesser of two evils is still evil.

dangoodin,

@lucas @todb @mikec415

Not supporting either is, unfortunately, supporting Trump, who enjoys very realistic odds of retaking the White House. We learned this lesson in 2016 from Five Thirty Eight. People pooh poohed the 538 analysis until the day after the election, when it proved uncannily correct. Left leaning folks who don't vote for Biden will, without a doubt, be stuck with Trump.

lucas,

@dangoodin @todb @mikec415 Also a true statement. However, it'll be a vicious cycle if Americans aren't willing to place their votes in a non-party candidate who won't perpetuate the status quo, which is not with the people's interests in mind. Nothing will change 😔🤷

dangoodin, (edited )

@lucas @todb @mikec415

I still don't understand what the basis of opposition is to my contention that not voting for Biden is in very real terms a vote for Trump. Do y'all think not supporting Biden will, in fact, NOT be a tipping point enabling Trump to retake the White House? Do y'all think Trump retaking the White House won't be the biggest calamity in 100 years? I think almost everyone in this thread agrees with each other more than they disagree. But I can't yet figure out what the source of our disagreement is in this particular discussion.

avi2022,

@dangoodin @lucas @todb @mikec415

Don't be bamboozled by the - they've already lost and the demographic by supporting and supplying the ongoing by . is finished - the best hope to save is to vote 3rd party and get everyone else to switch. If Biden was serious about winning the , he would have already stopped the genocide. Maybe he still can, but he doesn't seem to be serious about winning the election.

avi2022,

@dangoodin @lucas @todb @mikec415

If you, personally, are serious about saving , call your reps & senators to immediately end the . Hopefully that moves the needle in time to fix the mess. & plan to if the needle don't move quick enough.

If you're not serious about saving democracy, of course keep pleading for people to vote for genocide suppliers instead.

People aren't idiots, they see racists/fascists on both sides for what they are.

.

dangoodin,

@avi2022 @lucas @todb @mikec415

For the nth time: assuming Trump is nominated, there are exactly 2 c outcomes for the next president. I don't understand why you seem to harbor so much antipathy for Biden's support of Israel and none at all for Trump's. Sadly, US support of Israel will be no different under either president. But I can assure you so many other things (detention camps for undocumented immigrants,anyone?) will be vastly different if Trump wins.

Also, you haven't answered my question.
