I’m studying Psychology & Philosophy.
I plan to attend Graduate School afterwards and become a Registered Psychologist in Alberta so I can do Autism assessments (and more), and provide a safe place for #LGBTQIA2S folks. 🏳️🌈
taught for several years in those fields at UA (although I never became a R.P., most of my friends did). feel free to ping any time re: departmental/course stuff. there are a lot of great instructors out there!
@twenty20sight I wish the U.S. offered tuition assistance like I’m receiving in Canada. I’m basically not paying anything out of pocket outside of living expenses going into a loan. They heavily subsidize tuitions through taxes and provide generous grants for students with disabilities.
If you did study again, what would it be?
My prior education was in graphic design & programming.
@britt That's a great question. When I was doing full time massage, I was curious about studying to do physical therapy. Part of me would love to go back for another music degree, maybe composition or music production. Or something completely different: creative writing, maybe? Orrrr...it's been suggested that I'd make a great counselor/therapist, too. 🤷
It would be such a fun decision to explore if I knew I could afford it in time and money. I'm glad you've got such a great opportunity!
I’ve spent much of the last 2 years wondering if I’ll ever work again, mostly due to internalized ableism and pressures from society to fit into a 9-5 40 hour work week.
As I’ve managed health challenges, worked with a neurodivergent therapist and psychologist — I learned that I can do whatever I want, I can dream as big as I want and I can make life meaningful and accessible in my own way — no matter what my health throws at me.
@britt Huge congrats to you Britt! What an awesome journey and what an awesome decision to make. You will do amazingly along the way I'm sure and in the end, it'll certainly be worth it and bring so many new things into your life!
