ai6yr,

AP: Judge awards $23.5 million to undercover St. Louis officer beaten by colleagues during protest... "Hall was walking back toward police headquarters when his uniformed colleagues ordered him to put up his hands and get on the ground, then beat him." https://apnews.com/article/st-louis-officer-beating-235-million-award-e02ff1a30667a4872afea1a0675b4c77

NSalwen,

@ai6yr Now if all the non-cops who got beat up could receive similar compensation.

okay, so … no qualified immunity when the victim is a cop … great. 🤦🏻

@ai6yr can't believe nobody's mentioned that the protest movement Hall and his partner were infiltrating was a protest against the acquittal of a white cop for shooting a black man.

@darcher @ai6yr it's like icing on a cake. Or more like racism inception. Or Russian dolls of racism.

@ai6yr And the judgement $$ comes from St Louis city coffers, not from the police pension fund as it should. ACAB FTP

@ai6yr We got us an effed-up society here. Don’t know the answer . . . well I have some ideas, but the fact that money rules Amerikka, tells me that empathy and fairness are pretty low on the list of operating criteria. Hey, at least I get to communicate with Ben occasionally. 😉

ai6yr,

@petep44 😂 (on communicating with me)

@ai6yr
Not sure I understand this totally.

Is he actually going to get the money, or was the judgement against one of the guys who beat him up? In which case he will get little to no money.

ai6yr,

@tala Good call, looks like it was against one of the guys who beat him up (got $5.5M from the city), so unlikely to collect much/any of that, I suppose.

@ai6yr
paid for by the municipal insurance policy, resulting in increased premiums for taxpayers going forward?

ai6yr, (edited )

@paninid Update: looks like the judgement was against one of the guys who beat him up. (which means he won't collect much... but at least the guy who beat him up was found liable).

@ai6yr You can kick my ass for $23 million any day.

ai6yr,

@Cristobalm Unfortunately, I think you've got to become an undercover cop first.

@ai6yr Many moons ago, a friend and I went out to Malibu to volunteer at a judo summer camp thing for blind kids. I’m not saying, but all I know is when we got off the freeway in Malibu, We right away got pulled over. Mind you, all these other cars were just blowing past us, but the Honda Civic with the black guy and Mexican dude are the ones on the side of the road getting grilled by the police asking where were we going, what we were doing, where we were coming from etc. I went into full-blown Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles mode with my cane in my lap and trying to look as harmless as possible. I feel as though that was at least worth $500 right there.
