@taylorlorenz -- if they ever implement anything here, my bet is that it's not "possible" to be compatible (so they will say), so they will ask other devs to be compatible with their flavor of ActivityPub, and wanting to interop with them most devs will do it. and then at some point in the future, as they did with their API, quietly turn it off (no one raged against that for some reason).

track records matter in this stuff, and FB's track record isn't that good.

@taylorlorenz i think one reason #activitypub will be something #threads will adopt is plausible deniability, they could more easily kick people off and leave them to go to other activitypub sites. I know that might be counter to their advertising in part but o think they'll be able to make focused gains at least that's my thought

@taylorlorenz Even if you don't federate it with the broader fediverse -- this implies certain things about API interoperability. I'm guessing could probably work out a decent Threads->RSS gateway for example, without Meta having any account info for you.

I don't think this would match their data hoarding concept, which works in bigger parts through the threads-app.

There are plenty of Fediverse instances who made already clear they will block Threads.
And that's the right decision imho.
