There are a lot of tanky posts coming from lemmy.ml. Their whole purpose seems to be to troll and spread their bullshit far and wide. They are nearly as bad as the alt-right. They argue in bad faith and celebrate authoritarian oppression. The beehaw mods might want to consider defederating.
For what it’s worth, I have a couple accounts on Fediverse. I’m wolf_shadowheart on Kbin and SlrPnk.net, and the two of those act as the “unfiltered fediverse” and here on Beehaw is much more community discussion oriented. While our threads about specific brand new games or deep-cut niche content isn’t very full, we have lots of early-Internet question answer threads which are very nice.
Slrpnk.net isn’t defederated from much but I also use it the least. Note: The pnk.net community itself is great. It’s the wider fedi it’s attached too. There’s so much… trash? Lemmy.World may have the most users, but it has the least soul. They seem to be the redd-t equivalent of those communities, but with far fewer content posts and mostly comment posts (which I get, that’s me too.) and unfortunately as a result, these communities get heavily skewed by the type of guy on the left (the critic) while most of us are just on the right trying to enjoy stuff and maybe talk about some of the deeper implications.
Kbin is on the full opposite end with no moderation. I don’t really use blocking features, but goddamn if I have to do it to kill spam accounts. When it’s good, it’s nice and I use it in tandem with Beehaw. When it’s bad it’s really rough (just spam mostly) it gets really hard.
Anyway Tl;DR using multiple accounts isn’t a bad thing as it lets you experience multiple levels of curation. The way I use them, Beehaw is most curated, Kbin is second most curated, Slrpnk.net is least curated.
That’s actually a great suggestion. I thought of it as “I need to pick a new home to move to” but looks super simple on voyager to switch between accounts. I technically still have my kbin with the same user (and also see kbin in the modlog a lot lol). Thanks for the tips and suggestions!!
@viking there's been no official announcement or anything, but the last change to Kbin's software was about 4 months ago, and there are no admins here who have the ability to block or ban accounts or other instances, so spam can only be hidden not removed from magazines that still have moderators.
@BenjMathis1
I just made an account on mbin just in case. Though I will still be using Kbin it doesnt hurt to try it.
I think Kbins main problem is what a lot of open source projects go through which is all the contributions being from programmers having a team of programmers is great but having artists admins community managers is important as well.
Ernest is currently the main dev and community manager when he is not programming which is a lot of work for one person.
The last update did mention applications for becoming a site moderator which I think means on the instance level and not magazine level.
Also I noticed on mbin I got a notification from your comment where it says @username even though it links to kbin social I am guessing it looks at the username and not the instance it is from when someone mentions a username?
setting my default like reaction to the paws emoji hasn't had any weird interactions. It's not like I misclicked liked a post with paws for something that it didn't exactly fit in?
I'm not bothered by it being federated with kbin, and if I don't like it, I should be able to ban the whole domain on my account on kbin. So I hope he doesn't give in to peer pressure to preemptively defederate with them before I can see what they are about.
Having the freedom to make my own choices like a fucking adult is why I'm here instead of Lemmy.
I just saw an email from Buy Me a Coffee. Not just one. I went in, and I'm truly shocked. Thank you all for the support; I would like to thank each and every one of you individually someday. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The account balance is $350, which will definitely allow me to develop kbin faster or at least not...
I checked your bio and instantly found the existence of pkm.social. How is Mastodon going for you, anyways? I double checked on my Kbin instance and the Mastodon posts (toots?) you made to @obsidianmd just plain don't appear to me unless I am on your profile. I have been considering Mastodon but I was never a Twitter user so I never made the conversion. And how is pkm.social? I like personal knowledge management, and I'm wondering if the Mastodon community for it is more active than the Threadiverse or whatever we call Lemmy and Kbin.
Would you be interested in trying to grow any of these? None of the moderators seem to be active.
I might prefer to avoid ml for political reasons, though. Are you able to get the kbin posts to federate to your instance? I subscribed to it, but don’t see any posts on my instance yet.
Another option would be to create a new community, perhaps with a more general name like c/autonomousvehicles or c/autos. Thoughts?
@hitstun just wanted to check with you as I think I misunderstood your request for a CSS var for color scheme. Do you mean you'd like something like class=theme--scheme-[light/dark] on the body class? For instance when the user selects tokyo night, solarized dark, dark, kbin it's theme--scheme-dark and when light or solarized light, theme--scheme-light to save you from having to type out selectors for each theme?
And I did investigate the magazine description federation issues. Think I have an idea, I'll make an issue for it and it will probably be the next thing I work on after my current open PRs.
Yeah, I realized some of my "hey look they moved to RoyalRoad!" announcements probably should have gone in the External Links thread after checking the rules a bit ago. Sorry about that. Something something Kbin not handling posts that weren't originally federated to it well (I know of Lemmy's "paste the URL to force-fetch the post" solution, don't think it works on Kbin right now. But perhaps they updated Kbin and it does…). At the time I made some of those posts I think I literally could not post on the External Links thread without using a Lemmy account instead of my Kbin one, so I just made a separate post. But I could be misremembering the timeline on this and just have violated the rules when it was possible to follow them and still post on External Links. Won't happen again.
Can I just have a plain "yes" or "no" on reposting deleted content from authors who also deleted their account?
@mike In this case, I'm writing to you from Friendica. There have been groups here since 201x.
Groups are used for thematic exchange but not for grouping pure broadcasters.
Posts are shared within the group members. And groups are not displayed as normal accounts. This will be no different with Lemmy, Kbin and other platforms that use group functions.
