This are back to normal, after a few weeks of changes and insanity, doing my Saturday morning Edit of @gamesatwork_biz#podcast that I recorded with my friends @andypiper and @michaelmartine - we had a great time learning about Andy's Makerfest that he went to in #liverpool
Only took a few hours, but fully working app as NATIVE VisionOS app. Have a lot of UI things I will need to clean up .. but thank you #Apple for making this so easy #visionOS
I wrote a bit about my latest project, a WordPress plugin for embedding fediverse posts, the motivation behind creating it, and some of the challenges.
So there's a lot of folks reacting against the headset, which is not surprising. I’ll be watching to see how quickly or virally today’s presentation affects the rest of the industry / how far other companies instantly pivot to this same sort of direction. That was the impact of the iPhone, remember - suddenly every phone had to have a touch screen, camera, a similar-to-iOS experience. Let's see what comes from this: that's the real test for Tim Cook's Legacy #WWDC
BTW this post does not mean I'm convinced of this thing, at all - I think that today's preview did what it needed to do in terms of sprinkling the Apple magic, but I want to see and hear how well this actually works, and it is nowhere near a widespread adoption price point (though, nor was the first iPhone, or Watch, etc). See my other posts from through the event - I maintain some skepticism. I noted no Apple presenter wore one…
It might just be because I'm old now, but in the past I'd already adopted forms of tech before apple turned up and made their own version that arguably changed the playing field - notably mp3 players and smartphones, for me. For others, maybe laptops or watches.
This time I'm nowhere near owning or wanting a headset. So I don't know if I'm just not an early adopter any more (I didn't want a smartwatch either), or if VR/AR is actually less relevant in general 🤷
@billt you may or may not enjoy the episode of @gamesatwork_biz that comes out tomorrow (recorded Friday), depending on your interest in the likely Apple news. And I had a very interesting afternoon in the HoL a few weeks ago, on metaverse topics. Lots going on…
Off to central London to talk about the #Metaverse to an All Party Parliamentary Group in the House of Lords. My life is pretty interesting right now!
What do I know about this? I was using Second Life for work back in 2007… which is about the time that @michaelrowe01@michaelmartine and I started podcasting about it together @gamesatwork_biz (longer story!)
Very honoured to be asked to be part of the bcs delegation on this subject. Research findings published today:
