Why not give or sell your work, wealth, or property to just anyone?

In a world of cynicism and endless calls for self-sacrifice, ’s is a profound source of inspiration. Young people in particular need a “confirmation of the spirit of youth, proclaiming man’s glory, showing how much is possible,” as Rand observed.

“There are very few guideposts to find. The Fountainhead is one of them.”

@BlackAzizAnansi worth reading to understand this guy's pov

mjgardner,

@dominic I missed the part in where there’s even a hint of that kind of disdain for people who work for a living.

Maybe you should re-read it.

mjgardner,

@dominic The central theme is that the world depends on people who productively use their minds, whatever their job title. Hell, the primary hero John Galt (as in “Who is…?”) was an engineer at a car company before leading the strike.

A billionaire with fraudulent wealth who doesn’t see themselves as an villian should also re-read it.

It’s generally a bad idea to dismiss a work based on the odiousness of its misinterpreting advocates.

The solidiarities it generates are often superficial: movement use of social media can easily devolve into repetitive messaging in echo chambers without collective gains in narrative power—a change in the stories and values that hold sway in society—or a translation to real-world militancy."
