Does anyone have a personal blogging setup they are in love with? Just absolutely excited to use it every time?
I want to start writing more again but I have like 4 blogs and my posting rate on them is like 0.25 posts a year on average and I’m not super happy with any of them.
Ideally I want something I can self host (either on GitHub pages or my VPS), maybe statically generated but doesn’t have to be, that would be easy to upload posts and media to from my phone in addition to desktop. I’ve debated a bunch of ideas (notion, docuwiki, Hugo, etc.) and none of them are compelling enough to make me feel like implementing them.
PupperPost provides a super-nice experience for #blogging: from idea to a post you own in no time and without fuss, easily customizable, extremely nice UI on all Apple platforms, and especially great on the Mac.
When I'll get around blogging more, which is something I really want to do 🥺, PupperPost will be my home!
The job situation sounds awful. What a shitshow to put people (you) into a situation where they have to resolve a contradiction put up by HR/management/... over a scarce resource!
Wish I were rich by now to pay for a project or two that would need to be made, but alas, no riches to be had :(
"Thus, an “influencer” could easily post a link to an article written by someone else within their own social media feed. The conversation was removed from the blog post and instead developed in the influencer’s feed. As a result, carefully written articles have become a mere resource for influencers."
@joel I agree Newpipe can be a hassle. According to the link below the maintainers have trouble updating and rewriting the code due to lack of resources (unfortunately a common problem in FLOSS development). Having said that I'm currently using the recently released 27.0 by enabling beta releases in F-Droid and it works fine for me.
@joel@dm i only use newpipe on my phone. It's frustrating sometimes when it breaks, but I have to remember it's a small team fighting Google's antics and that maybe I don't need to be on YouTube at that moment anyways.
When many people think of #Phoenix, they think of endless suburban sprawl. And, certainly, that’s part of the story. But here’s something that many are surprised to learn:
Four of the five largest city parks are located in metro Phoenix
@Seirdy Honestly? Sounds complicated. Plus I need to be aware of any comments, only then they show up. So far Mastodon is friendly, and I just implemented the block list for when I need it. I rather have open discussions and don't need to rebuild it every time.
"It has a nice side-effect of being a public declaration of priorities. It’s a good link to give people when saying no to invitations and distractions."
(Noting for the idea although not sure how often most would keep this up).
Unsurprising, but good to have explicitly laid out:
"The overall effect of looking at my Substack dashboard is 'wow, Substack is really getting me an audience! If I leave Substack, half of my subscription channel will dry up.' It’s clear that this is the impression other writers, the media, and investors are getting as well, because they praise Substack about it all the time."
I already don't like Substack and massively prefer reading things on the writer's own website, and this kind of manipulation to keep people there just confirms my dislike
