A beautiful 3-color gradient, not including the floor.

@metin First I thought it's Katakis or Delta or IO, but it’s something different. I can’'t remember.

metin,
@metin@graphics.social avatar

@designfactotum Katakis, which became Denaris because of legal pressure by R-Type's Irem. After which Factor 5 made the C64 and Amiga conversions of R-Type. Good times. 💚

I had Katakis for the Amiga back then.

@santiago
It was similar for me. My parents really didn't know anything about computers. For them computers were "black magic". When I was at school, I had pirated everything. The "problem" was, after I had figured out how to get everything possible, especially in the age of the Internet, that although I really had almost everything I could possibly have, I hardly used any of it. And it was never enough. But now it's the exact opposite for me: everything is legal.

@osz @root42 @stefanhoeltgen Same . It’s been a long time since I pirated software. Most of the tools I really care about are open source or free now and I have a company to buy the rest. Certainly once you run a business the risk of installing random stuff on your computer doesn’t make piracy so appealing.

Now I see kids have a pirate Steam that downloads games over torrent. I am too old for this shit but it makes me smile.

Until now I do not own any storage system whatsoever for my Commodore C64 breadbin.

I am looking into several solutions like the SD2IEC (several) combined with a Final Cartridge III+ cartridge or an EPYX FASTLOAD cartridge.

The perfect yet pricy (for me) solution would be the Ultimate 1541 II-L cartridge.

Another one could be the Pi1541 but I haven't yet found any offer that can sell me the complete thing with the case ...

ipaschke,
@ipaschke@mastodon.social avatar

@root42 Yes, I also use a real 1541 where all else fails.

But to sum up: I would recommend the Kung Fu Flash to anyone starting out. It costs about the same as a Epyx Fastload Reloaded which the KFF can emulate perfectly. If more compatibility is needed, just add a PI1541 later, no money wasted and you can still run those CRT images.

@root42@chaos.social avatar

@ipaschke The KFF is a great choice. Limited D64 support even.

And there we have it: replacement 6502 and 6522s from Rockwell for the gutted 1541 I repaired a couple of weeks ago. Now the drive is back into full working order!
The 6522 chips are relatively new and not MOS branded, but I think it's better than a non-working drive!

Still one of our fave C64 purchases - a homemade Goldene breadbin with a matching Suncom Inc. thumb-stick (which is detachable). This the best best way to play Wizard of Wor ;-)
