Why these you ask? Because they are stand-alone episodes highlighting the character of (a) their Doctor, (b) their relationship with their companions, (c) their writers and showrunners, (d) different (arche)types of DW stories.
You can then pick and choose what you prefer most and dive into that particular era.
There's probably one issue I have with a lot of RTD-written episodes of #DoctorWho Season One: they rarely establish a rulebook and play by it. It's all very vague and whimsical a la "and then this happened". In "The Giggle" we had some rules laid out with the Toymaker but e.g. in "The Devil's Chord" I had no idea why stuff that happened actually happened. It's a bit similar with "73 Yards", which was held together by atmosphere and Millie Gibson.
I rather prefer #DoctorWho episodes that set out some rules, establish a "lay of the land" as fantastical as it may be, but then stick to it and enable you to understand why something happens. Sometimes RTD manages that, or has enough going for an episode that it doesn't bother me as much, but more often than not I feel a bit lacking in understanding.
Hey y'all. So... since I was in Junior High, my fellow nerds were always watching Doctor Who on PBS.
I never got into it but due to the fact that I traveled in D&D, chess, home computer, board games (Diplomacy, anyone?) & other nerd circles, I knew about how the Doctor was a Timelord, changed bodies every season or so & the Cybermen & Daleks & many enemies of the Doctor were legendary.
I'm in my mid-50s now & I've never seen a single episode of #DoctorWho. So...
I love how Mrs Flood is like “Hello, I’m another mysterious dangling plot thread… but I’m nothing to do with this week’s mystery so, erm, I’ll bugger off then! Bye!” 😁 #DoctorWho
#DoctorWho#73yards doesn’t make a lot of sense but of the four "magical" episodes so far, it utilized the fantasy angle the best imo. Great performance by Millie Gibson, without her all the plot would fall into one of its many holes. Still on the fence with this iteration of DW, but the casting is super strong and I‘m really glad that Gibson will stay on for one more season
Finally got around to watching the Dr Who specials with David Tennant, written by returning showrunner Russel T. Davies. Not as bad as Moffat's garbage series. But still, more melodrama, meta-discussion and self-parody. Yawn.
oh, yeah. today's friday. that means there's new #DoctorWho today. I don't know why, but it's just not catching in my brain that we're in teh middle of a new season
