domain names cost too much, literally the fakest economy in existence. Yhey just need to cover the funding of ICANN and the IETF which should be no more than 50 furrys (network engineers) and 10 old guys on a board (they work for free they like it).
I really like @xor's Python script for generating domain names from public domain books, so I turned it, with permission, into a website, to make it easier to use.
Does there exist already OR is there interest in a forming a #ConsumerUnion for folks who collect domain names and use domain name registrars or their resellers?
for the next major release of league/uri the requirements for installing ext-intl will be removed. You do not need the extension to use the package. However if you are using i18n domains then yes you are require to have either the extension or a polyfill in place else the library will throw. This is not an ideal solution but all the other solution I thought about are ... suboptimal unless proven wrong. #php#uri#url#i18n#domainnames#host
It’s hard to imagine in this current world of any dot-something you could possibly imagine when looking to register a domain name, but there was once a past era of the internet when all we had was .com, .net, and .org. A dark time. A sad time.
How did we get there in the first place? And how did we eventually arrive here at today’s promised land? Join us for this rousing episode all about: gTLDs! (and IANA, and ICANN, and IETF, and…)
#DNS#DomainNames are a pain so I wrote a tool for https://Dropserver.org that lets you change the domain name within your instance with one command. That way should you lose control of your domain name, or perhaps you never did control it, DS will help you migrate to a new domain as much as possible.
Of course all the links that are out in the wild will be broken, but I expect to also provide a redirect function in ds-host.
I'd love to get away from DNS names completely, but until then..
$200 to get a domain name out of register.com "you didn't get our emails, your domain expired" jail‽ A week later and it's still not restored. Not much of a registrar, register.com. #domainnames
