The Cords That Bind: A Liminal Tale in the Finding Humanity series
When Eka’s unexplained energetic connection to Rana puts his life in danger, the elders concoct a dangerous way to heal their psychic cord. Eka just needs to survive the treatment.
Last night I had a breakthrough on edits for The Ruined. The breakthrough was personal, about why a section of it was so upsetting to me, not how to fix anything in the story.
I’m not sure how many other authors experience this emotional recoil to specific scenes, but I suspect I’m not alone...🧵
It’s probably the best book I’ve ever written, it’s just having a slow birth.💜
And of course it’s this guy, Hakan, aka The White Bear, who’s causing the issues for me.
For the next week, all three of the ebooks for my future ice age series are HALF PRICE on Smashwords! Follow the link in the comments and search my titles and my name. Happy reading!
#WordWeavers: Can your MC easily tell if someone is a good or bad person?
The star beings can read minds and energy fields around people, so they instantly get an accurate read, but they are also nonjudgmental, so I don’t think they’d think in terms of good or bad. They would more think person I want to be around or person to keep an eye on. #FindingHumanitySeries
The voting is open!
If you’ve read either of my books and want to support me in this Reader’s Choice part of the Indie Inks Awards, please consider voting. I believe you get one vote for each category.
No pressure to vote, but I know a lot of these readers’ choice contests don’t get much publicity, and I wanted you all to know in case you want to join in.😊💜
#WordWeavers: Do you have a favorite review of feedback on your writing?
Yes! This review for The Chasm, the second book in my series is one of my favorites. I gave out ARCs to a bunch of reviewers, so I don’t know who wrote it, and that somehow makes it even more special. 😊 #FindingHumanitySeries
Check this out!
You’ve seen the pictures I’ve drawn of the giant cave diggers in my future ice age series. These tunnels they discovered in Brazil look like the rock and ice tunnels they create! #scifi#FindingHumanitySeries#YA
My youngest drew some chibi art of two of my characters in my SFF series. Meet Rana and a grumpy Commander Savas.🤣🤣🤣
Didn’t they do a great job? I love these so much.
#WordWeavers Day 22: Did any books/movies/shows influence your story?
More than directly influencing what my story is, things influenced what my series isn’t. I started the first draft of my series over thirteen years ago when pretty much everything was dystopian & post-apocalyptic. I wanted to create something that showed that hope & empathy in a genre where so many things were solved by violence was possible, & that we can reflect that ideology in real life.
Character art of Kahali, Rana’s fun-loving best friend and LI in The Calling. He believed kindness and humor could solve everything until he met his first humans. You can imagine how well that went.

Rana uses a dagger for nonviolent purposes: shaving off kindling for a fire, cutting food, harvesting herbs or grasses. She also has a fire starting kit and a walking stick, and knows how to use all the cooking tools in the gathering hall. Her main tool, though, is her mind. #FindingHumanitySeries
#WordWeavers: Do your characters eat any unusual foods?
The humans of Northern Haven eat mostly cloned meat products, except for farmed fish. The fruits, veggies and grains have all been genetically modified to grow better in their underground haven. They like it only because it’s all they know. We, however, would not want to be invited to dinner.😂 #FindingHumanitySeries
I avoid writing and editing death scenes so much that I’m considering letting everyone who survives to the next book have perfect plot armor.🤣
Seriously, though, I’d be so much faster finishing books. #FindingHumanitySeries#amwriting#writing#author
#WordWeavers: Is your MC more of a people person, plant person, or animal person?
My series has 5 POV:
Bleu: Unfortunately for him, he’s a plant guy in an ice age. 😂
Atsushi: People person, though shy.
Rana: All the animals!
Kahali: People, just not humans.
Commander Savas: He focuses only on people, but I don’t think that’s his choice, more his assignment. Just wrote a really interesting scene between him and Digga, the cave digger pup. He’s complicated.
#WordWeavers: MC POV What would you do if you had the antagonist’s job?
Bleu: Chuckles. “Get that man some therapy.” He pauses to think. “Oh yeah, and take away his guns. Then, arrange a real meeting between Northern Haven and the star beings.”
Meet Bleu and Kalakanya from my future ice age series. It’s a bit awkward falling for a telepathic star being and not knowing if she feels the same way while she can tune into your every thought. Add to that the complication that you’re both on opposite sides and your concerned friends are watching your every move.
I had so much fun writing this adorable scene. 🥰
