We collect them, sort out the scratched/broken/missing-a-piece eyeglasses, and recycle the parts if we can.
The good eyeglasses are washed and dried, and the lens strength is measured on a lensometer. The eyeglasses are labeled and sorted into boxes for distribution.
The sorting and cleaning is all done by volunteers: Lions & family members, medical students, sorority members, retirees, etc.
Next, optometrists and technicians volunteer for eye clinics
You know you’re an old fart when going to the eye doctor is a major event. I ordered two new pairs of glasses. This time the progressives will also be transitions. Oooooh, babie!
@robertjames1971.blog@robertjames1971.blog I have to go back in a month for follow-up. It's not actually the first time this has happened but it gets more serious. We are looking for signs of glaucoma. We have increasing small indications but one needs sensitive instruments to see them. So we are very early.
BTW I use bifocals, not progressives. Have for over 20 years. But nowadays mostly wear single prescription glasses I buy online in different prescriptions for different ranges of vision :)
Warby Parker's quality is...unimpressive. Is there a better place to get decent frames? These are a year old and that gross bubbling thing in the plastic is already happening at the nose
I even paid extra for the super ultra mega thinnest possible lenses and...they're not really much thinner at all. Oh and my idiot bitch vision insurance didn't reimburse me at all because vision insurance is a scam don't get it
@SirTapTap we just started getting stuff from 'eyebuydirect' - seems like the same quality as the overpriced stuff from local stores. Fits ok usually, though I did have to add a silicon patch on the nose bridge of one set of plastic frames to stop them slipping.
@Saltssaltgirl I would notice them instantly. No, you can't ask her.
I went all winter without shaving and developed quite a beard. Early in spring I shaved it off. Several days later she asked "did you do something with your hair???"
US CPSC: "Don't report the eclipse. We're not going up there to investigate.... Do report any unsafe eclipse glasses down here on Earth." #eclipse#safety#glasses
Research shows that glasses that have a filter for blue light to protect you from light emitted from computer screens do not help your eyes.
An optometrist encouraged me to pay more for glasses that provide protection from blue light about 5 years ago. When I got them I complained that they made things look yellow. The optometrist said I would get used to them and would not notice.
I got used to them. I ended up telling a graphic designer who I was working with that her designs had too much brown in them. It was the glasses. I apologised and spent a lot of money replacing the lenses. #glasses#BlueLight
Trying on my pinkish lipsticks as a screen test🌺
Kinda tempted to record a video in which I'd show off my entire collection😍
It includes a lot of really awesome indie brands that sadly went out of business, destroyed by Sephora😢
