Google Bard AI is a thing and it's as bad as you think. I asked it if the Taino people are around today and the response I got was "The Taíno people are not alive today as a distinct ethnic group."
First of all, yes we are alive, but then it goes on to say that those who "claim" to be Taino are actually "Neo-Taino" which first of all. I've been engaging with the Taino community and I never once heard of Neo-Taino before.
Bard AI also goes on to say this.
"Some scholars argue that the Neo-Taíno movement is not a legitimate continuation of Taíno culture, but rather a kind of cultural appropriation. They argue that the Neo-Taínos do not have a clear connection to the Taíno people, and that they are often more interested in creating a new identity than in preserving Taíno culture."
First of all, fuck you Bard AI, white scholars don't get to decide if we're alive or not, we're alive! We're Taino!
When I asked it for it's links, were is it getting it's information from I received this.
"I'm not able to help with that, as I'm only a language model."
Which is just a chef kiss response. Something created by Google can't go through the internet to give me links for its bullshit questions.
Forgot to mention it also said this. "Ultimately, the question of whether or not the Neo-Taíno claim is valid is a complex one. There is no easy answer, and there are valid arguments to be made on both sides."
There's no both side, we're alive, our culture is only dying because of responses like this that ignores our existence. If people just listened to us, they would see we've been here all the time.
You can submit feedback to Bard AI and maybe they'll fix it, but as of right now, the Taino people don't exist, but "Neo-Taino's" do and even that's up for debate.
