My recent try raises issues with missing css files. Weird thing is FreeBSD PLIST does not reference them either. And compiling from source does not seem to solve the problem.
I am used to simple things running on Docker (Jellyfin, Nextcloud, etc.) I am looking at running my own personal Mastodon instance (maybe share it with a few friends and family), but I like using Docker. Looking at install guides, the steps required seem to be much harder than just editing docker-compose.yml and running the...
Instead of the full-blown Mastodon, you should also look at #GoToSocial which is compatible and pretty light-weight. (Doesn’t come with a web UI, so you need to use client apps.)
FTR, the US501(c)(3) for #Mastodon was already planned for quite some time, the non-profit status in Germany being revoked doesn't seem to be directly related to that.
"Set up a US non-profit branch (501(c)(3)) with a board of governors to become eligible for larger grants from US-based donors and allow US donors to make their contributions tax-deductible."
@jwildeboer last thing we need is more and more social networks coming under US control. But regardless of what is behind it, it may be very good reasons, Mastodon is not the Fediverse. We have plenty of ActivityPub based clients. I like the idea of #GoToSocial which has no central server instance, so you are encouraged to host it for family and friends, and it can even run off a Pi.
The big central instances do cost a lot to host, and there is no easy way around that. Donations or paid access
Account self-registration / sign-up stuff got merged into #GoToSocial main :) It'll be included in the next release (0.16.0), but snapshot users can already try it out.
The proper release of #GoToSocialv0.15.0 Shagadelic Sloth has emerged blinking into the sun, fresh from the release candidate process :) One of our funkiest releases ever, since it contains some beautiful new themes you can try out (see screenshots).
Is it that difficult to run Mastodon over Docker?
