Lehman Caves

I'm always intrigued. by caves. I love the natural beauty of them but I do fee often feel slightly anxious being underground. Most caves that I have been have had fairly large passages, and for the most part Lehman Caves wasn't too bad but there were a couple of spots that were a little narrower than I would prefer.

Bristle Cone Pine Abstract

This is a close-up image of a Bristle Cone Pine Tree captured near the tree line on Wheeler Peak at Great Basin National Park in Nevada.
I chose to shoot this close-up so as to highlight the amazing swirls, bends, twist, and other growth patterns that these trees produce over their thousands year lifetimes.

For a century, dams on the Truckee River have blocked endangered cui-ui and Lahontan cutthroat trout from reaching spawning ground upstream of Pyramid Lake. A new fish passage will help open up 65 miles of the river to migration.

Lithospheric drips (a relatively cold and dense mass of lithosphere that sinks vertically into the upper mantle) have been identified using geophysical methods in the Great Basin and now in northern Borneo. The Borneo study published in Nature was accompanied by this startling artist’s depiction of a lithospheric drip.
