As an experiment I decided to shutdown one of my 1u servers running Proxmox to see if my Intel NUC could handle the workload. To my surprise it was able to handle all 6 VMs without a sweat!
My 1u server was pulling 140 watts!
Intel NUC is only pulling 26 watts!
Going to let this run for a few days but impressed so far!
I have been using a #NUCSkull for many years now as a server that never missed a beat. It was also my backup workstation for a while so seeing this news makes me a bit a bit sad. Maybe my next one will be a Ryzen-based one.
farewell intel nuc! competitors caught up and made them better and now intel has decided to stop making its next unit of computing (nuc) small-form-factor barebone computer kits
I have an Intel NUC6I7KYK/i7 running ESXi. It has been a solid performer for many years. Now the guests are shutting down randomly, I am assuming a ESXi crash.
Now it has decided to shut itself down altogether. It was doing this with ESXi v7 so I rebuilt it with v8. No better, no worse.
Does anyone have any ideas what to look for, or can recommend a good replacement? It has 2x 512GB SSDs for storage and 32GB of ram.
