Had a serious database failure earlier due to cascading bad decisions. I started deleting a bunch of old data, rather than using . This led to a bunch of errors in the container.

I moved the database into bare metal using a with 32GB of RAM and 4 cores. I'm going to use this for other services too, and it was on my roadmap of transition. will be moving to that as well.

I'm still sorting out the fallout from this.

My desktop started to hang often and sometimes even restart by itself. I am suspecting that the RAM is dying. Other suggestions?

hadret,

@stfn I had a case of a faulty RAM socket in my — I wasn’t able to confirm it via memtest and I noticed because of stability issues (and random restarts) + was reporting mismatching cksums. I tested in one socket at a time and figured which one was faulty (RAM sticks themselves were both healthy). Good luck on your hunt!

I do have to say, one thing I personally enjoy is fiddling with smaller systems.
May it be a or a or maybe a - there is so much one can do without spending loads of money on electricity!
And every time I found myself using a smaller system I deploy either a or a distro.
My needs are not huge.
Some programming, web surfing and sometimes a video.

Looking forward to using my newly purchased laptop 😎

And of course: It will run a free operating system! 🙂

I wish people would stop giving console gaming the cultural capital that it has.

These are proprietary locked down machines that you can’t upgrade, nor can you mod them without running afoul of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

Oops, kicked those over to : https://www.intc.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1634/intel-and-asus-agree-to-term-sheet-to-take-intel-nuc

The only listed available gaming-oriented NUC is a kit for which the customer needs to source memory, storage, and a graphics card separately. And where can they buy it? “Request a quote." https://www.asus.com/displays-desktops/nucs/nuc-kits/nuc-13-extreme-kit/

Then you moved the goalposts from a self-contained appliance to your evergreen tower.

It's OK to not be the target audience for something without condemnation.

I bought this (Aerofara Aero 2 Pro) and the SSD was officially pronounced dead yesterday. It lived for a grand total of 2 months and 15 days.

2.5 months of usable life? Holy shit. I know the sourcing of these components is not going to be prime at such prices, but wow.

Now, this wouldn't be a problem for your average hacker, except that THERE'S SEEMING NO WAY TO OPEN THE CASE TO EXCHANGE IT. That's right: it's SEALED, with no screws or indications on how you open it. And no manuals!

Did inspections today. Our original is still in stasis - a lot of , but very little brood, & are only working on the original 5 drawn out frames that came with the we purchased in spring. There must be a new in the hive because we saw a few larva. We cannot figure out why she hasn't laid a bunch of brood, unless she died recently. Stumped.

In contrast, our swarm hive is outta control & made burr comb on the underside of the queen excluder!😂 /1

As an experiment I decided to shutdown one of my 1u servers running Proxmox to see if my Intel NUC could handle the workload. To my surprise it was able to handle all 6 VMs without a sweat!

My 1u server was pulling 140 watts!
Intel NUC is only pulling 26 watts!

Going to let this run for a few days but impressed so far!
