Updates about last night's tornados in southwest Michigan:
"Injuries, emergency officials said, included at least 20 people who were taken to hospitals and destruction to 176 homes in Kalamazoo County alone, a FedEx facility, and damage to other buildings in Portage and in St. Joseph and Branch counties."
@notsle It was only a matter of time, unfortunately. There are too many people in the #Kalamazoo area who think “we owe [fill in old business family] so much.” Yes, their businesses have helped Kazoo to be a community. And I don’t diminish what they have done with their $, such as the Kalamazoo Promise. But, and this is big, residents of Kalamazoo working and innovating as their employees are really what drove those companies’ success over the decades. They owe those past generations so much.
It's actually insane my tiny town has its own social media in the form of kzoo.to. #Kalamazoo is the last place I'd ever think would have its very own home on the internet.
If you're from the area I recommend you come here. @notsle is a gracious and intelligent host. We have this emojo as well which I feel may win hearts and minds. :aim_logo:

Well… shit. 🤪 I’m at #Culvers on #Westnedge in #Kalamazoo and I ordered lunch. The lady on the other side of the counter gave me a “Seniors” discount. I was going to laugh and point out her error, but she didn’t seem to be expecting that… I’m uh, Feb 2024 - July 1975, uh, still 48…
It’s the beard. It makes me look much older than I really am. However, people seem to take me way more seriously with it. So…
#Urbanists throughout #Michigan are encouraged to complete an MDOT survey on funding replacements for the state's gas tax. Possible solutions include tax per miles driven.
I now have both Metronet and AT&T Fiber at home. Some details for thinking of switching.
Both installs went very smooth.
Both are reaching gigabit speeds(900-920mbps actual)
Metronet uses CGNAT which limits portforwarding and can be a problem for some video games. (workarounds possible)
ATT gives a real public IP address and Support IPv6.
Both services cost the same. bundling can save some.
I use both with my own gear
Happy to share any more details. #kalamazoo#fiber#att#metronet
