It was deemed extinct. But now pentl'ach has been declared a living language in

“The reclassification of pentl'ach and its addition to B.C.'s official list of languages, was the result of linguistic and admin work by the First Nation, with support from the First Peoples' Cultural Council.”

A local First Nations language that was almost gone, has been recovered after some amazing and dedicated work. Welcome back pentl'ach (pronounced "PUNT-lutch”)

The most common reference English speakers in this area will have to the language is the name of the "Puntledge" river near Courtenay, BC.

I find this old building unique and inspiring. I photographed it many times over the years from different angles, in different time of year and day. This photo was taken earlier this week. Located on the traditional territory of the First Nation.

this morning. Citizen reports have it 50ft from . I just drove through on my way to work. Beaufort Park is closed. Looks like they have a pump and fire lines set up that go across the road (somehow) and up into the bush. The smoke is incredibly thick but mostly going away from the lake and road up into the valley. There has only been one other fire in living memory near here. It was on the other side of the lake. It was NOT in May/June. It should be raining.

Road stretches in a slight bend to the right. To the left is an abutment and lake with hill in the distance. Straight ahead is a ridge line with tall for trees and a huge pall of orange and brown smoke rising above it. There are green trees thick on the right side of the road
Looking to the right side of the road there are trees but at the foot a fire hose is visible along the ground. There is a yellow SLOW sign.

alberniweather,

BC Wildfire has finally updated their online information as of 7:17AM today. The fire, which they call Cameron Bluffs, remains out of control (ie. “A wildfire that is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.”) and has grown from 20 to 25ha.
