My cup overflows with anger toward these lying, deceiving, murderous, oil and gas companies. So this morning, I did something I've never done before in hopes the people coming home from their long weekends in Tofino and Ucluelet get the message.

Please Boost.

Last weekend I stopped to walk the dogs yesterday on Harper Mountain, just outside of Kamloops, British Columbia. The area had signs of a recent wildfire activity with many small places where fires had been extinguished but after I walked a bit further, I smelled smoke. The area had dozens of small fires burning that had been burning underground for quite some time. A very strange landscape to see the effects of a fire burning underground in the root systems.

Smoke from a fire is visible in the middle of the a forest. Pine tree trunks are visible and scattered throughout the slope. The group is grass, pine needles, and pine cones. A few small tree stumps appear in various spots along the ground.

As wildfires burn, Premier Danielle Smith is doing an event with Alex Epstein, the activist who says climate is "Not a Crisis".
The event being held in the mountain resort town of Banff, , is only several hundred kilometres from , where thousands of people recently fled their homes due to severe wildfires that scientists say are being intensified by .
The conference wraps up with “a fun Mardi Gras-themed costume party,”

@gemelliz @pinhman And it seems to be going really well.
"Overall, almost a third of Canadians attributed the increased burning to arson. Almost half of Conservatives and nearly two-thirds of those who support the People’s Party said arsonists are the main reason so much forest burned this year."

@eyrea @gemelliz @pinhman A lot of this arson chat now being imported from conspiracy theories about Lahaina is just regular peeps' low information misunderstanding being used to amp up the disinfo drama.

In Canada arson is "intentionally or recklessly causing damage to property by fire or explosion".
It is not using a heli-torch to ignite a controlled burn to stop a wildfire from spreading just because you'd never seen it done before.

The Shuswap "Convoy of Truth & Freedom" feel "their God given right to travel freely" is being violated by highway blockades so they're holding a meetup at the highway blockade right now to protest it to the checkpoint officers.

Maybe if firefighters hadn't had their equipment & ATVs stolen 3 freaking times there, there wouldn't be a need to block off the area.

This is what the current situation is here with the fires. Air quality is off the charts, multiple communities in the interior are on evacuation orders and alerts.

has been partially burned down (there's been mixed reports and gossip, but as of this morning the band office, and lodge still standing, but the gas station and some homes burnt down). There's been an extreme lag with news and updates about the area, as the focus has been on , and evacuation orders for reserves weren't posted on the map until up to half a day later.

Many other reserves are on evacuation orders, and while is on alert, it's surrounded by orders and road closures. People are stealing and moving firefighting equipment, including the sprinklers protecting the few bridges in and out of communities.

I can't keep up with everything right now.

Multiple red and orange polygons near Chase, Kamloops, Kelowna, Oliver, and Shalalth, BC indicate evacuation orders and alerts.

POSTPONED
Unfortunately BC’s 1st Clean Air Festival had to be postponed due to deteriorating air quality from wildfire smoke (ironically enough).

We were looking forward to building Corsi-Rosenthal boxes for BC classrooms, mask decorating, live music and more. Clean air strategies keep everyone healthy.

Our thoughts are with those affected by the BC wildfires this summer.

We are aiming for a rescheduled date in September. Stay tuned!
