One of the big problems with #Mastodon threads is that once a post has more than a few replies, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to keep track of them all and see who replied to what, etc.
It almost makes me not want to create a post which is likely to get a lot of responses, or participate in a discussion which already has a lot of responses.
It means that you end up repeating yourself over and over again because people reply to you without reading the rest of the thread and seeing what you've already said in response to other people or whatever. And who can blame them? It's practically impossible to do so.
I understand that this is probably something that can be addressed purely on the client side, but since most people use the default website and mobile app, it's probably something that @Gargron should look into as well.
But speaking of which, does anyone know of a desktop client like @sengi_app, which actually does threading well?
@GrahamDowns replies really has two issues on the fediverse:
post synchronization: every instance doesn't have the full picture, and this is the biggest issue that leads to "a lot of people say the same thing" since... they can't even see other content. #Sengi solve partly this issue by fetching remote content (when possible) but that doesn't solve the issue for others.
thread display can always be enhanced, it's not easy to get it right. I'm open to suggestion. 🙂
It's a "language support" update: new post language settings, translation, etc.
Also, if you're using the Electron build, update to the last one (1.7.0) and get spellchecker synchronization when you change the language in the post editor!
hey can #mastodon app #developers start catching emojis locally instead of making me ask the api for the image list every time I click on the emoji list button because custom emoji buttons are literally unusable on most instances I'm on otherwise, just a giant blank list of emojis
this is not exclusive to #megalodon, which you can see me tooting from. this happens on EVERY APP I USE. #sengi, #mona, #icecubesapp, any one. check it out yourself.
Testing @sengi_app devel branch with multi-language support. This might definitely become my new prefered desktop client since I can have several accounts seamlessly displayed at once.
#Followerpower
#sengi seems to work better in-browser than the native app. i think this is just because of it bundling a webapp. runs better in a browser than its own thing, i guess? i'm also on linux, so it could just be acting weird.
Has anyone I know tried out #sengi (@sengi_app) before? Looks cool af and gives Tweetdeck vibes! If it supports skybridge too… that’d be awesome honestly
For all new (and "new" users), if you don't like the default Mastodon user interface, you don't need an app, there are web-based alternatives, here are a few I've been using…
Random #fedi question, what sorts of desktop clients are people using? #Sengi is the closest I've found to what I want but I've been having some issues with it lately. #fediverse
Anyone else using @sengi_app#sengi as a desktop client and seeing the same toot show up multiple times on their home feed? Seems to always be 3 times for some reason...no more no less...
A new version of the Electron build is available! 🙂
Most interesting feature: Spellchecker support!
Also the menu is now visible by default, but you can enable the autohide functionality in the View submenu.
A lot of bug fixes and quality of life improvements in this release.
Most notably: fixed real time notification for Mastodon v4 (when the streaming API isn't on the same server), better attachment handling, fixed unmute/unblock functionalities and updated project page.
