Lookit things are hard & painful in so many dimensions right now. HOWEVER it’s imperative that we look around to see the beauty that is in front of us & breathe that in, too.
Our poppies are blooming & my herb seeds are growing & I say, This, Too
#shabbatshalom everyone! I'm new to #babka
but got bored with my old server and saw this one. I've been needing more Jews to talk to (living in the Bible belt is rough).
Currently baking #challah from scratch for the first time, so excited to see how it comes out :)
This week's Torah reading is the first of several that detail the construction of the Mishkan, the portable temple that the Jewish people took with us on our journeys through the desert. Even the most mundane technicalities of construction are reviewed thoroughly. This is still important for us to study although we will never build another Mishkan, because it teaches us about the nature of having a relationship with the divine, and bringing holiness and meaning into our lives. It isn't accomplished by separating from the world around us or making grand gestures. Rather, it is found in the tiny details of everyday life. "Make a sanctuary for me and I will dwell within you." (Exodus 25:8)
>> Die jüdischen Gemeinden fühlen sich enttäuscht von ihren Verbündeten, die sich selbst als links, progressiv und immun gegenüber #Antisemitismus sehen. Die Kritik: eine fatale politische Fehleinschätzung des Nahostkonflikts und des Staates #Israel.<<
Next week #Chanukah starts. Although traditionally the menorah is put in a window as we light a new candle each night, last year we moved ours as we received threats daily.
Sending out homemade cards to Jewish friends now. When we say #NeverAgain, we mean it.
Since I don't live in the US anymore, and I didn't celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving, I'm turning this Shabbat into a "Shabbat Thanksgiving" with traditional Thanksgiving foods, etc. It's also awfully close to the one year anniversary of Babka Social, which is on Tuesday.
I'm incredibly thankful for you all. It's probably no secret that I've felt pretty burned out more than once. I've certainly had more hate thrown at me in the last year than in my entire life. But it's your care and support that keep me working on this.
So that's what I'm grateful for this ThanksShabbatBabka Eve. :)
Shabbat Shalom – "Never again" means for everyone.

#TootYourShabbat Lonely #Shabbat with my father travelling. No special food, but I will eat and that counts for something. This #challah photo is from ages ago, but look at the bottom end - signs of a Ketzeleh attack. We also call her Challeleh. #ShabbatShalom
