The European Union wants to help invest in "cable projects of European interest" that would reduce its reliance on too few undersea internet connections and make it less vulnerable to sabotage.
The EU push is expected to come in early 2024 as part of a new strategy to boost its telecom sector and internet infrastructure. It will lay the ground word for a new "digital networks act," announced by Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton.

Jawwal confirmed the complete interruption of fixed, cellular and internet services in Gaza.
The Palestinian telecommunications company had warned on Wednesday of “complete telecom blackout” due to a lack of fuel amid an Israeli siege on the Palestinian territory.
