Quick note to say I've just posted another news digest to the Beyond Faircamp Matrix room.

Too much to repeat here (I only have 500 characters), but you can find out about an important bug fix in the latest Faircamp release, a template for adding new pages to your Faircamp website, a community calendar for live streaming events, and more!

AI poisoning tool Nightshade received 250,000 downloads in 5 days: ‘beyond anything we imagined’
It's a strong start for the free tool, and shows a robust appetite among some artists to protect their work from being used to train AI.

"What I said: 'Substack will launch an ad network.'

The reality: Wrong again. Though I still think Substack gets there in the end."

But... why? They have absolutely no incentive to do that.

For a start, it would undermine the pitch that their customers are publishers and their readers, and the trust they've built with them. Most likely it would lose them a huge number of each, to other ad-free subscription platforms out there.

Secondly, putting ads on SubStack would give any significant advertiser the power to blackmail them over moderation decisions by threatening to pull advertising.

Finally, it would be unlikely to ever break even. Even if they went with context ads rather than surveillance ads, entering the online ad market would put them in direct competition with Meta/FB and Alphabet/Goggle, who currently get away with using dirty trucks to control the lion's share of it;

Happy Thursday everyone!

I can't believe is starting on Monday! That means this is the last week to register for Cyborg Security's Threat Hunter training delivered by me! We will cover some resources that we can use for researching prior to our hunt, we will demonstrate how to extract key artifacts from an intel report and turn those artifacts into something useful, and then we will get into the data to hunt for evidence of malicious adversary behavior! It's going to be a fun time, good discussions, and a great chance to get some hands on experience hunting and pivoting through an investigation. I can't wait! Until then, Happy Hunting!

Registration ends on December 2nd, so don't miss out! Link below 👇 !
