I'm now reading "Personal Score" by Ellen van Neerven and it's magnificent. The writing style, the approach to the often challenging subject matter... It was no surprise to learn that van Neerven is a poet.

The book's very topical following the World Cup, since it centres on the author's relationship to soccer. As well as their experience growing up First Nations in Meanjin.

inner circle peeps. I'm trying to get back home, but might not be for a few weeks yet. I'm hoping someone might be able to take my manual car on a bit of a drive, on my return so the battery doesn't die. I only bought a new one 2 months ago! It's a pink Suzuki alto. They tell me I won't be able to drive for months, so I'm bummed. HMU via DM x

Intro post! Hi all, my name is Janne, I'm an evolution and biodiversity researcher and first year PhD student in on split duties between the QLD Museum and Griffith University. I'm interested in the environmental drivers of biodiversity and niche evolution, and their interaction with climate.

Here's a nice lizard for y'all 👍

Here's the latest variant picture for Queensland, Australia.

XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (32%) has surged to dominance.

The XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" (24%) and XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" (19%) variants are still significant.

The "Deltacron" XBC.* variant (11%) and CH.1.1.* "Orthrus" (14%) are still in the frame.

Be alert for conjunctivitis symptoms, particularly associated with the Arcturus variant.

The vigorous mix of very different variants poses a raised immediate re-infection risk for anyone relying on natural immunity from a recent infection.

The sample volumes seem representative up to May 3. There are almost no sequences shared since that date - hopefully only a temporary bottleneck.

Time to continue with more flies! This guy is from genus Cerdistus, part of a group of successful aerial predators known as robber flies. Harmless to humans, they catch other insects on the wing.

Went for a walk yesterday arvo, buggered the feet so no walk today, but I regret nothing :) It was just such a lovely afternoon!

Powderfinger formed in #Brisbane in 1989. Until their break-up in 2010, the band line-up was vocals Bernard Fanning, guitarists Darren Middleton & Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins & drummer Jon Coghill.

Darren Middleton was asked why he thought the band had become so successful and he said "Patience, persistence, being ready if an opportunity presented itself. DRIVE".

Appropriate clip, eh?

Okay this is huge for and - 50c fares are to be trialed from August. To assist in cost-of-living crisis and to encourage people to use PT instead of their cars. Will be of huge help to people living on the fringes who pay heaps in PT fares. I've just discovered the most amazing game! It's called Capes, and it's a super hero take on the x-com like team turn based campaign combat genre.

It's got a native linux version, and it turns out that it was developed right here in Meanjin!
